Scope Mount Clearance

for an ar ull need at least extra high. not so much cause of the scope but because of the close cheek weld. i have highs on mine with a 3/8 inch riser block just to be able to see thru the scope.

Okay.. I have the magpul fully adjustable stock including centerpiece rest for height adjustment. Should I look into the single piece scope mount for absolute co witness or 1/3 co witness to get the height I need, or is that a completely wrong direction?

not really sure on this...sorry. but one thing u can do if u already have the scope is to put some modeling clay in place of the mounts and set ur scope on the clay pieces. look thru it and add or take away clay till u get the height u want and and then measure the clay and see what measurement of scope rings u need to acheive this.

Can anyone tell me which scope mounts I should use to mount a 6-24x50mm Scope to an AR platform? The scope tube is a 30mm

I have a bushnell banner 6-18x on my bushmaster varmint upper. I can post all my specs when i get home tonight.

Decide whether you want to use rings or a one piece mount such as the Larue SPR or a Badger Unimount. I run a Larue SPR on my MK12 clone, center height is 1.5, the scope is a NXS 2.5-10x24, but I've used a IOR 4-14x50 and a Viper PST in the same mount with plenty of clearance, heck I've even mounted the NXS on the rifle with 30mm Seekins lows. I use Badger 34mm extra high rings, (1.275) with a 56mm objective sometimes. There is plenty of excellent options for mounting a 50mm scope to a flattop. Whats the rifle and more importantly whats the scope.

The rifle is a DPMS SASS, and the scope is a Vortex Viper HS-T.. Haven't purchased the scope yet because I'm not sure about the mounts. Right now I'm looking at Weaver tactical x-high mounts. I'm not picky whether it's one piece or separate rings.

To be honest that's a pretty decent combo, I might think about getting a little better quality set of rings, on the low side Burris xtreme highs should work. I prefer Seekins (extra high 1.25 or AR high 1.4 will work) or Badger rings myself. Theres always lots of 30m mounts/rings for sale on ar15.com. The Burris REPR, the ADM Recon or Larue are also options that will work.

Got my first ever AR a week ago. I also have the Magpul stock with adjustable cheek piece. I have in the past been used to mounting my scopes as low as possible. No can do with the AR. I started with Weaver mediums and the scope would not clear. My next move was to Weaver highs. These provide sufficient clearance HOWEVER, with the cheek piece fully lowered, I barely can get proper eye alignment. I really need extra highs. Sure glad that I experimented with low price rings. That being said, if you get the Weaver tactical rings, I would advise lapping and bedding them to protect your scope.
