Scope Recommendation for Deer Hunting

I just put a Sightron S1G2 1.75-5 on one of my coyote calling rifles. I like it but it only has one coyote under it's belt. It seems to track well when sighting it in. Nice glass for the price.

The Burris FF-1 2-7 was a nice scope.

For a cheapy I have a Weaver Kaspa 1-4 duplex that was surprisingly nice

I am looking for a scope for my CVA Scout in 44 magnum for deer hunting. Maximum range 150 yards and hoping to pick one up in the $150 range. Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks much!
I hunted in PA with friends that lived there. They felt the only reason for a scope was to see if the antlers looked like they were over 3". My breath kept fogging the rear lens. In the Army I could hit 300 meter targets with open sights. Most of our hunting was in wooded forest and hardly ever shot 100 yards. I think I would still like a scope.

This one is a bit outside your price range, but I can guarantee that you won't regret spending the extra $$.

Call Doug and tell him you heard about it here and he will probably cut you a deal as well.

I have the 3-9X version on my 6.5 Grendel Ruger American and it performs well above its price point.

How are your eyes?

At that range and chambering I don't recommend a scope unless the firearm has no provision for iron sights.

The OP asked for a $150 scope. If you Leupold guys can tell him and me where to buy one for that amount, I'd sure appreciate it! None of my Leupolds cost less than twice the OP's limit.
Quick answer: people crave opportunities to talk about themselves and their stuff. Actually providing a real answer to someone’s question is secondary. Happens every time. Just human nature.

I’ve been buying quite a few vintage scopes of eBay. Mostly clean older Burris scopes. If you watch you can pick one up for 125-200. A fixed 4x, a variable 1.5-5, a 2-7 and a 3-9x have all been bought for that price range in the couple months. If you cant find one PM me and I’ll cut one loose if there’s one you like. The older Burris scopes and even the Redfields are better choices imo than many new production scopes currently offered for 150.00. You have to know which models to look for, if I can help let me know. The older Burris scopes are some of my favorite and are still bright, still tract and still hold zero without issue. Used
leupolds are nice too but typically they go for more $$. Here some examples of Burris, Pentax and Redfield vintage scopes I paid 200.00 and under. Any of those will work well for a 44 mag at 150 and in.

Thanks again for all the great comments, very much appreciated! I’ve decided to go with one of the new Gen 2 S1 Sightron scopes in either 1.75-5 or 3x9 with duplex reticle. As I mentioned previously being a veteran I can receive a 25 to 30% discount. I have a Sightron SIII 8x32, an SIII 10x50 and most recently a Sightron PLR 8x32 and very pleased with all of them.

I think you’ll be happy, good choice.

Buy the most expensive one you can afford in any of the main brands. Ie Leupold, Burris, Vortex, etc
Or pay more for Zeiss, Swarovski, etc In glass you get what you pay for. With that said, you can kill a deer with anything you can see out of.

I have a real cheap 3x9 Bushnell made for 22RF on my 22RF. The scope has worked well for years. I would see no problem hunting deer with it on a high power rifle.

As others have said, very good choice. They seem to track very well, and are a very good value.

Here are some in the classifieds someone just posted you might want to look at. Sorry, slow reader, just saw you bought one already.

I had a 3x9x40 scope on my hunting rifle and had a small buck chasing a doe come in on me about 15 yards away. I had a really hard time finding her in the scope (partially because she was running). So next year I'm going with a Vortex 1x6 scope. Not sure how that would do for a muzzle loader but I'm pretty pumped to use it on my rifle.

I’ve had deer right below my stand In the woods. That has motivated me to prioritize field of view, as deputysilver said. In the future, mine will be less than 3-9x. I’m fond of the Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8x. Not cheap though. There is also their VX-Freedom in 2-7x with Hunt Plex reticle. FOV on is 37.5/13.7 on the VX-3HD, and on the VX-Freedom 43.8/29.8.
Sightron has S1 1.75-5x32mm G2 that has an FOV of 71.2/24.1 ft @ 100 yards.

Which dealer offers 25 to 30% veterans discount on Sightrons?
