Scope limits in BR shooting

A local club uses the target, 25 bull, with 1/4" 10 ring, don't recall the org. They basically use NRA rifle silhouette specs for sporter and target class (=any scope, non tapered barrel), and the sporter class has 6x limit. They have an unlimited category for guns over 11 lbs but nobody shoots it. I like the format.

Other orgs have half inch 10 rings with x count, or a 100 point center ring with worst edge scoring. All targets at 50y.
 
I use a Leopold variable that goes to 20X but then my club has 50, 75 & 100 meter events. As the years roll by I have had to upgrade my optics simply to account for less acute vision but in 22 rimfire it is the ammo that plays the biggest factor on how well your rifle performs {I have an Anschutz MSR 64 action} and it definitely has preference for some types of ammo over others..
Rimfire rifles are notorious for being selective about what will shoot the best in that particular rifle. I shoot agains four others with Anschutz and they all use different ammo than I do but they all have there rifles going well with what they are using.
This issue of 6X limit was once used on the “Field rifle/hunting” events but was scrapped years ago for the very reason that many here have mentioned and that is unless you are 20 years old or have that sort of vision you are at a real disadvantage even when shooting rabbit or other varmint targets and for a Bench Rest contest it is just ridiculous as even my $200 scope on my bunny gun is 5-25x.

Anyone ever heard of BR 30? Perfect score = 3,000
A 50 meter competion with three rows of 10, 15 minute time limit, if the shot cuts the line you get the lower score…
This is shot on a national level in Australia with badges of Bronze, Silver and Gold. Minimum score for badges: 1,200 = Bronze, 1,800 = Silver, 2,400 = Gold
We also have a 100 meter “Fly Shoot” of 5 shots to score, two shots on the fly
{a life size blow fly} wins a fly badge as well.

Because IHMSA did shoot itself in the foot with massive restrictive rules. Even though I am an IHMSA member I truly believe this is the case. Way to many classes with many perfect 40 class scores. The game is played at the shootoff targets. And with all of the classes that 250 registered guns that you speak of may be less than 50 people participating. That's less than 50 for an International Championship.
 
Set a price limit.... You can have what you want but under say $400... We are running into the same thing with a fun shoot and trying to keep it where everyone can participate.... Unfortunately we will soon have to make rules...
 
The easy solution, tell everyone they can use a 6-18 power scope, but on the day of the shoot the match Director sets the max power for that day. So the match Director declares 10X Is the power setting for the day, he checks each scope setting and puts a piece of tape around the power ring and anyone caught tampering with the ring is automatic DQ!
This will allow everyone an opportunity to figure out what scope power they like the best over a few months. The guys with 3X9 power scopes are only at a slight disadvantage but still allows them to compete.

Well that’s interesting since NF does not make any scopes that are 60x!
 
I watched IHMSA handgun sillouette go from a hot everybody's shooting it Full two day matches to dead non existant over TWOOOO many rules and categories. Another great shooting sport killed by rules RIP!
 
It's all good until somebody shows up with an 8-80X March High Master...

I showed up one weekend with one on my rifle. After much profanity, it was agreed that an 8-32X variable was reasonable for an upper limit.

I don’t have the High Master version, but I have the regular (poverty spec) 8-80. It’s overkill’s It doesn’t matter just how precisely you can aim when the wind is blowing.

That's it. Never conduct a match in less that 10 MPH winds. The twitchier the better. It won't matter what gun you shoot, what scope you use or what ammo you bring. The winner will be the person who can read the wind and they might be shooting a 75 year old rifle with iron sights. Anybody can shoot small groups in no wind.

In the custom/high end rifle class (Voodo's, Anschutz and customs) we shoot rimfire at 100 yards on A-23-5 targets. 50 shots total. Those targets actually 50 yard targets with a 10 ring about 7/8 of an inch. In no wind there are cleans. In wind it is another story.

Im not familiar with all the different kinds of eye problems. Im about half blind without my glasses. My point was that we dont need the level of optics that a bird watcher does. I have shot some of my best groups with pretty blurry glass. I feel like purely for aiming second rate glass doesnt hurt you. Now seeing mirage is a different story. Lots of Marches out there winning, that should be proof lol. They are great scopes but no one raves about the glass. If they are being honest.

I will honestly rave about the March glass. Leupold glass ain't bad, but the March is a different World.
Alex, post back about this same subject when you are 82 yrs old.
