If you have to wait 3 years or more to get drawn for an elk tag, I would rather have all the power on a scope I can handle. Then, when you get a shot at 500- 800 yards, you are okay. One of my brothers lives in Oregon and things are much different there. So, It depends on where you hunt. Rather have more power than not enough. My best scope is a older Leupold VX-6 7-42x56 TMOA, but that is just long range.
