Shoot the rifle you are most comfortable with that has moa accuracy at 300 yards. I have used mostly 25-06 and 257 Roberts and 270 Win. If you know how to hunt them, 300 yards is a max shot. If you want to drive or walk around the prairie exposed, then 300 yards is the short shot. My furthest was 738 yards one shot with the 270 win. Probably the biggest ears of the three
