I have a Leupold 4.5 x 14 w/AO and target turrets that works great for me on one of my .22LR. Have taken a few pigeons at 140 yds with this combo. Just dial and they drop in! Not every time, mind you! Lol.

I just started working with mine and put a Mueller 40X on it to
get the grandson going on paper off a bench. All things considered
and the way the test went.....If I were to actually use it on varmints,
I have several Bushnell Elites in the vault. The 3.5-30x50 would be
what I'm putting on it. I'd leave the 40X on it, but it just does'nt have
a good field of view.

Whatever you get I would recommend 25x or maybe more, IF you plan to compete with it. That said I have a Vernon 5x25x50 on my 457, and with my old eyes I could stand a little more magnification.

My CZ American 17HMR and Savage 93R17 17 HMR both have Nikon Bushmaster 6-18 X40 Scopes. They seem to be just the right power for the 17 HMR. Easily reach out there to the 100-150 yd. mark on small critters. However Nikon no longer is making rifle scopes. But the power range seems to be perfect.

Hi Donald - I have the same question. Just acquired a CZ 457 Varmint MTR and need help with glass options for competition shooting. I'm considering the following but would appreciate feedback on any of the follow, plus options I should consider.

• Vortex Vernon 5-25x50
• Bushnell Match Pro 6-24x50
• Burris RT-25 5-25x56

Hunting, or matches?

For match shooting, I'd possibly go with the 8-32 Sightron SIII.

For hunting I'm liking the Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16X42 with the MOA reticle.

My Rem 512 has a USA Redfield 3x9 guplex reticle. A good center fire scope wih repeatable adjustments. For the 22 LR accuracy and distance combinations it is rare to need anything over a 9x in the field. This is my suppressed Rem 510 with a 16.25" barrel, that I built out of a cut off dirt dobber barrel. It has a 4x12 on it. I have fish ponds, constant visitors from water and air. I can hit pine cones floating at 200. I use PMC Target, the Win subs are in fact corrosive, box says not, ate up a barrel on me.

You have to consider many things in a selecting a scope. Spend the money for some good glass. Don't buy Chinese. I really like Tract, Meopta, and especially like Sightron. I get it right about than 50% of the time. I personally like BDC, MOA, or Mil reticles. When I am shooting for fun, I may use them for hold overs instead of dialing the scope. If I am trying to be serious and I can dial the scope. The hard part is finding reticles you work for YOU. For instance I have a Tract 2x10 with awesome glass and a reticle that works in daylight, bu when the light starts fading I can't see the cross hairs.

Here's a good research site, but I don't think they are updating it anymore. But it's full of good info, tells the country of origin, and has links to reviews. I use it often.

Ahh, a best compromise scope. For me something like a 6-24 SFP with an uncluttered moa reticle. You can hold off for wind when hunting, and still maintain a fine reticle for paper. Something like Sightron S3 with moa2 reticle.

I have a Leopold 3x9 on my Savage/Anschutz Model 64 for casual bench shooting and an occasional ground hog. I don't see a model number on it but it was under $150 many years ago. Shoots wallet groups all the time. Try to buy match grade ammo.

Athlon Midas tac 5-25x56 or Vortex strike eagle.Midas for great glass and parallax,but smallish capped windage.Vortex SE ok glass,but has bigger,locking turrents.

From your list. I would chose the Venom. Can't be beat for $450. With a $1000 budget, either a Siii Long Range or a Meopta 4.5-27
