Just thought it would be polite to introduce myself

I'm a Rookie, not at shooting, hunting or reloading but at competition style shooting. My name is Harley and I live in Va.
I have a few rifles that I currently hunt/shoot with.
Remington 223 VLS, Piller beded with 6.5-20x50 VX3 Leupold.
Winchester 308 Police Sharp Shooter, HS stock with 4.5-14x50 Mk4 Leupold.
Remington/Custom 22-250 with 26in PacNor HV barrel 1/12 twist, trued action, HS PSS stock and Jewell trigger, 6.5-20x50 Leupold VX3.
Remington/Custom 243win .270 neck with 27in PacNor HV barrel 1/12 twist, trued action, HS PSS stock and Jewell trigger, Leupold Mk4 8.5-25x50
Remington Sendero 300win mag with 26in R5 barrel, trued action, Sendero stock, Shilen trigger and Leupold Mk4 8.5-25x50.
Currently I'm building a 243AI .270 neck on a trued Remington 40x single shot action, Pac Nor 27in 1/8 twist HV barrel, HS Benchrest stock, Jewell Benchrest trigger, Badger 20 MOA scope base and 30mm rings. For a scope I leaning to a NightForce 12-42 Benchrest. I'd like to use this rig to get started in 1000yd competition.
Thanks - The Rookie

Welcome,

I had the opportunity to shoot Camp Butner this past year. It's a couple hours south of Roanoke and a great place to shoot. They have already posted their 2011 schedule. Check it out

Welcome aboard.

I did very well in F Class at 1000 yds with a stock .243 Savage 12FV on the old target with a one minute centre ring. The extra horsepower in your .243AI and the increased accuracy of your custom rifle should make you competitive on the 1/2 minute centre ring.

The main factor in LR is the wind. Reading the wind is everything. Now that the whole world has gone to a 1/2 minute tie breaking centre ring in F Class, there isn`t much room for error.

The U.S. shoots on a 10 ring target with an X ring. Canucks, Brits and Aussies shoot on a 5 ring target with a V ring. Both are 1/2 minute. Pretty well have to go to a custom rifle even in F/TR.

I am a longtime lurker (5 years?). And new forum member as well. Greetings to all from the artic frozen tundra of Iowa! ::) I mostly shoot long-range pistols (LRPs) but play with rifles as well...
