Savage triggers

Possibly a stupid question, but are there any of the newer manufacture Savages that the trigger can't be adjusted on? Reason for the question is that I recommended to a young friend that he buy a Savage for his son over a cheap Rem. He tells me that the trigger can't be adjusted. I'm inclined not to believe that. I'm not sure which model that he bought but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the cheapest one. Any input welcomed.

Any savage with an accu-trigger can be adjusted, and all newly manufactured (like 2006 and newer) have the accu-trigger.

They make 3 colors Black Silver and Red The Red will go down to 8oz. I for my own guns have changed spring in all of them . Yes the all adjust and come with the tool to do it. Kids don't need a 8 oz trigger. I never have had a savage discharge like a Remington if they get too lite .
Good Shooting Larry

I think Savage still makes special runs of rifles for chain stores like Cabelas and Bass Pro that don't have an AccuTrigger to keep cost down. I have seen these in the last couple of years at the stores. Of course a Stevens doesn't have an AccuTrigger. Big Savage fan. Not an AccuTrigger fan. Personal preference. Just don't like them and none of my Savages still have them installed.

Hope your friend enjoys shooting with his son. My youngest turned 11 yesterday and he got to open the box and find a new Henry 22. It is a fun little rifle to shoot and I wanted him to have some with iron sights.

Luck, Tim

the Axis -edge trigger can be modified -adjusted very easily
or it can be replaced with a accu - trigger
which would also need slight modification
google axis trigger mods-
or pm me
always willing to help

LRPV, target and benchrest actions all have the 8oz trigger (red saftey lever) and you dont have to change the spring-just adjust them with the tool that came with them

The red blade all come that way . I have one I stoned and tighten up that makes a crisp 6oz I like it better then the evaluation 3 oz. Savage has one thing going for them you can slam the bolt shut and you will probably not get a slam fire . Good Shooting Larry

the target action and similar come with the lighter trigger, but the OP is talking about about the axis or edge action. a 3 to 6 oz. trigger isn't possible, I don't believe, but what type of poundage is possible? cliffe

I've had the red Factory triggers before, wasnt happy with them in the long run, replaced one with a Rifle Basix ( the lighter one ) works well, i'd say a improvement of the factory for sure, but even with these they can have there problems, eg, amount of play in the trigger blade , side to side is more then i'd like, but still better feeling then the factory,

All Savage triggers SUCK compared to what you can put on a Remington.

But if he wants a cheaper rifle that is much better than what Savage or Remington can offer out of the box at the Axis or SPS level respectively, tell him to get his son a Thompson Center Venture rifle.

Warning on Thompson Center Ventures the are having a recall for safety reasons check their site.

They could recall half the parts on a Venture rifle and it would still be 3 times the quality of a Savage Axis rifle ;)

PS; pretty sure that's for the older production Venture rifles manufactured before 11/08/2011. All the new builds have the trigger sear issue worked out. Wasn't really much of an issue to begin with anyhow.

A recall for safety reasons doesn't sound like quality to me. Larry

Stick with your Savages then. I own both and can tell you first hand that Thompson/S&W machining is light years ahead in quality when compared to Savage. Inside and out.

Have you ever looked at how a Savage Accu-trigger engages the sear and how the tang safety prevents it from firing??? One quarter turn of the hex screw holding the safety adjustment and somebody is dead. Savage factory triggers are not only the most worthless and cheaply thought out designs in the gun industry, but they are also only barely safe enough to pass inspection. The accutrigger was an improvement to safety, but still a joke of a design no doubt.
