Savage FTR .223 questions

I was very happy to see it perform as it had before also !
It’s fun and challenging discipline
Had blast at Milan IL Fall Classic midrange match
Very much looking to forward to trying it at LR and more MR
We had ok results at first but an adjustment and further made marked improvements in groups
SDs in low mid single digits when the groups are tight feels good

That’s pretty good speed with just 23.7gr in the case, I might have to play with some of this stuff…thanks

That's pretty much exactly what I got with AR comp.

Seems to be in a good spot.

If it matters, a COAL of 2.660" with the bullet seated at "touching" would mean very close to 0.240" freebore. If the 88 is seated off the lands in the image, the freebore would obviously be even longer. Although that may have been past your target depth, it should be just about perfect for the 88s. Per your post they certainly seem to shoot well out of the throated rifle. The good news is that if you ever use a Uni-Throater again in the future and accidentally go past the intended mark, there is even one more option that might still work. The Sierra 95 gr Matchking would buy something like an additional .050" of forgiveness past where you went for the 88s. :). The bottom line is that your rifle setup appears to be shooting very well, so this approach is working.

Been following this topic intently and have learned much from you all. Thank You!

I love the 223 and have been shooting it in an informal local modified league which is now my third year. I have posted a little bit about it here on the form.

Right now we are limited to just 300yds with great hope that the range will soon be expanding to 600yds or maybe even 1k yards. In the mean time I am using a Savage Model 12 223 with a 26" 1:9 tw. barrel. Last year with this same rifle I was firing 69gr. SMK and thought I was doing well. Then this fall I discovered a box of Hornady 60gr V MAX I forgot I had so I loaded up a couple ladders. Groups have shrunk greatly

I intend to stick with the 223 instead of moving to the Easy Button 6mm.
