Savage Barrels - Where are you getting pre fits?

Surprised no one has mentioned Mcgowen barrels. I had them make me a 6BR barrel for a savage target action. The barrel shot very well and cleaned very easy.

Read my post on the first page :) I agree on the cleaning for McGowen barrels as well. broke in faster than any other barrel I've owned and clean out much quicker too. expertly lapped extremely smooth bores. Probably a huge reason why they are so accurate an forgivinuhg when searching for loads.

Sorry about that. Must have missed that. :D

Yes the Mcgowen I had was a prefit in 6mmbr. The barrel was top notch. I traded that rifle foraother to a good friend that wanted to try our mid range F-class course. First time out shooting that rifle he shot a 442-22x across a 450 course. Not too shabby for the first time out with that rifle I put together, quickly, and on a budget.

XTR, I have a 30" 1-11 twist .308 Criterion coming from Jim Briggs. Jim always gets my bussiness when he has or can get what I want.

trailrider121, I don't know of any barrel companies making pre-fits for a small shank 7RSAUM. You may have to buy a tube and have it chambered.

Trailrider121,
The wide diameter bodies of short mag cartridges leave the chamber walls of the barrel too thin for safety on a small shank and you probably won't find anyone who will do it. At least not if they are concerned for your safety. I would not recommend trying it even if you do find someone who will do it for you.

If you absolutely have to have that kind of performance in a compact case design using a small shank barrel, you could wildcat the 300 Ruger Compact Magnum case to 7mm and probably get similar performance. Just a thought.

How does one get in touch with Jim at Northland Shooters Supply. My internet searches turn up a business listing in Buffalo, MN but no website.
