Savage 17-223 barrel?

So who makes pre-fit barrels for a Savage in 17-223? I think I want a 24" heavy sporter/light varmint weight barrel.

I have an action at the gunsmith right now getting fixed up and functional and I'll need a barrel for it soon! 8)

Rethink the 17-223. I have had or do have 17 cal rounds on may cases. The 17-223 was an old wildcat and what the 17 Rem was biased on and is a very good preforming round. That said, it does come up short of the 17 Rem. on several counts. It runs about 100 to 150 fps slower. You have to form your own brass and dies cost a lot more. It will be worth less than a 17 Rem. if you chose to sell it. I would recommend that if your wanting a 17 cal. that will shoot, go with the 17 Rem. with a tight neck chamber and a top shelf barrel. Again, there is nothing wrong with the 17-223, but you just get more for your money with the 17 Rem. Just my 2 cents worth.

I currently have a 20 Practical and already have over 400 pcs of brass for it so I figured I'd just neck 1/2 of those down with a couple more bushings to use for a 17-223.

If I don't do a 17-223 on the Savage action I have then I'll probably just buy a CZ 527 in 17 Hornet.

I thought the 17-223 actually held more volume than the 17 Rem, with a shorter neck.

I had a 17-223 built because 17 Rem brass is stupid priced if you can find it. 223 brass is everywhere.
