Savage action truing tools

So this guy asks this question on the Savage shooters forums. So I am curious as well. How do the PTG tools work on a savage. Particularly interested in the bolt raceway cutter but interested in all of the savage tools as well. It looks like the the Gen 2 thread bore reamer/ action Lug abatement facing tool and the chasing tap are required as well as the bushing kit. What about the raceway reamer. I realize that reaming the raceway would require a new bolt.

I was hoping he got some answer at SS but the smartalec mod just says "it's got a floating bolt head". No wonder 99% of the post over there are the same old rookie questions month after month.

Having the lug faces square to the bolt bore would have to be a good thing even with a floating bolt head. This way the base of the cartridge is sitting flat on the bolt face and the lugs have even bearing. Nothing gets flexed when you pull the trigger.

I made a lug face polishing tool for my Remingtons. Nice fitting shank down the bolt bore in the rec and a simple boss turned on the end that is slightly larger OD than the lugs. I D&Ted the front on the centerline and put an 8mm bolt in the hole. I use my cordless impact as a drill motor to spin the tool. My current 40X was good and square from the factory. I mostly did it to have a good polish and smooth surface for max bearing area and less effort on bolt lift.

Truing the action is the same as a Rem. If you are looking to sleeve it the PTG stuff works well but I caution on trying to make the clearance between the action and bolt body too tight. A little "wiggle" room is OK. Cutting the bolt head (both surfaces and bolt face) is easy enough and the same cutters used as in a Rem. Set up is obviously a little different, but same idea. Will try to post a pic of the bolt head trued....no guarantees

X-ring. I have had two respectable smiths tell me from .002-.003 diametric clearance on the bolt body. The expectation being to use a PTG bolt body ground to the correct dimensions to provide the clearance after reaming the raceway. For what I was interested in was to reduce indicating time and still have an action that was respectable with concentricity and perpendicularity.

GreTan bolt sleeves are elliptical. As soon as you rotate the bolt handle it unloads.
You can set them up tight (.001) Similar to the Jim Borden (Bumps) on his actions
