Kiff bolt for Savage SA, anyone used one?

I have a Savage action on my target rifle, and have been considering reaming it for an oversize Kiff bolt to fit with much tighter tolerance, as close to "custom action tight" as I can get without binding. What will I need for minimum clearance, as in how tight can I go before I have issues with binding?

I am wondering if anyone has used one of his bolts for a Savage and what is required to make it fit the action as far as machining or any special fitting is concerned as well.

Kenny:

First Savages come with a ,.7015 bolt race and .696 bolt bodies. Yes, they aere very sloppy.

Instead of going with a .705 bolt body you might choose to go to a .701 bolt body.

PT&G bolt bodies are turned from tool steel and not drawn on a mandrel then chrome plated.

The PT&G bolt will require to be turned in the area of the cocking piece ramp to allow for the cocking piece in to fit inside the action.

I also reccomend you take the hump out of the cocking ramp.

Be cause the bolt handle bolts on the back of the bolt body you might have to remove some from the rear of the bolt to ensure proper primary extraction. Especially if you have the lugs trued and lapped.

You will see a huge improvement in your action.

I have one from pt&g. .701 with spiral fluting. Took the slop out. Did not mod the cocking ramp on mine. That would have helped with bolt LIFT. Lift kit from Stockade helped that, but could still be better.
