Savage action opinion

I will say this for Savage, a blown primer is MUCH easier on the face than with a Remy...

Unless you had a factory Remington extractor replaced with a Sako....this makes no sense.

He is talking about the gas relief port. On a Remington it releases the escaped chamber pressure right into your face. I know all too well what he is talking about...

I knew this thread was going to go in this direction as soon as it started. They all do. I think all the custom action owners simply don't like the fact that these less expensive actions can shoot as well, or almost as well, as their actions that they spent 3 times the amount on. The actual shooter makes a much bigger difference than the action. Let it go already savage bashers.

OH BOY!!! THE LADLE IS IN DA POT!! :P :P :P

I can only speak for short range BR , look at the empirical data (available for all to view on the IBS and NBRSA web sites comprised of match results from several hundred matches throughout past years)..... virtually NO ONE campaigns a Savage action in registered competition ( discounting factory class which is a non-award class and contest very few shooters)....and more to the point .... if one is used they don't win, they don't even place.
Why after all these years, and with all the changes (improvements?) made by Savage, have competitors avoided campaigning one.
Why not build one on a rail gun, and take most of the shooter element out?

I like those Remington triggers. LOVE IT when they drop the striker when you turn the "safety" off!

How do I get one of those triggers for my Savage?

BOOM

Here you go guys. Finally this debate is settled. I did not want to hijack this thread, so I started another one.

Just some advice, when you get to court, make sure you have one (factory & unmolested) that will actually "go off" when your lawyer demonstrates his reasoning behind the lawsuit.

I wish someone would do a test with identical setups on a machine rest and see what the difference would be. I'm betting extremely minimal if any.

In a typical Group Shoot Tournament (100 and 200 yd agg = 50 shots for record) the difference in group measurements between 1st place and 3rd averages 0.010"; between 1st and 10th averages 0.030" difference. "Extremely minimal" matters if you are "going" to win ....or just "going there".

Amazing to me how this thread has taken a life of its own! It was never intended to be a chevy vs ford but rather of the 3 actions available, which might work out best for what im doing. Obviously, some say none. I can respect that. I asked for opinions.

Well now you know what happens here every time someone wants opinions on Savage actions. Never fails that Erik comes runnin and the game is on! Lol!

Chevy vs Ford is not a very good analogy for Savage actions vs Custom actions because Chevys and Fords are both junk trucks that need to be repaired all the time Toyota!!! Lol! Just kidding...kinda ;)
Salvage vs Custom would be better portrayed as a domestic house cat vs a fully grown male lion in a fight...or perhaps a 1981 Datsun pick-up vs a Top fuel car in a drag race.

I think what gets me (and others) is that whenever there is a "which custom action should I get", a bunch of Savage guys come running out of the woodworks to exclaim "get a Savage and save yourself some cash! It's just as good!" or something to that effect. By the time you get a Savage action to the place where it's even remotely equivalent to a turn-key custom action, you aren't saving jack.

There's no question that some guys get great (or better) results with a Savage, or other off-the-shelf action. I call those the exception to the rule. But to mislead guys looking for turn-key custom actions that they will assuredly get the same results with a Savage action and save money while doing it, assuming they can find someone to bring it into the range of being up-to-snuff - well, that's where I think it gets heated.

That's why Savage threads are fun... :-)

Regardless of what you do to a SALVAGE action/rifle you will still have THIRD Rate weapon--their triggers are JUNK and no one makes a good trigger for them due to their CHEAP design trigger mechanism.
The bolt on them will NEVER be smooth enough to be competitive because of....

Jim

Tell that to VAJim who has won the FTR Nationals with a Savage action......

Fact is it can be done and takes about the same rework as factory remmys

Can we just quarantine all the Savage lovers to their own section of the forum so we dont have to listen to repeats of their threads every week? ;D

Maybe we can quarantine all those who have lost to a savage action as well.
Again, if you dont like them move on. Multiple disciplines represented on this board and multiple tastes in firearms. While Savage may not hold a National Title in all disciplines, but they do in some.

Savage made it affordable for me to get into this sport and will allways have a spot in my collection. Hopefully so will a new Barnard that will replace the Savage...

Abbie, I see you are a new member, 2-25-14 with 6 posts. First of all, welcome aboard. Secondly you might as well get use to it and how a thread can wander all over the place. That is one of the things that makes this site enjoyable and fun to read. But eventually through the threads, postings, PM's and using the search function you should be able to get your questions answered.
