Savage action opinion

I will say this for Savage, a blown primer is MUCH easier on the face than with a Remy...i own several of both and they both have their places. I realy like both actions, but my FTR is a savage and I LOVE the accutrigger vs the xmark pro on my newest Remy 700...
I have no need at all to want a different trigger on the Savage PTA....

Long time lurker first time poster. Looking for any and all opinions on an action for a build. I recently received 2 new CBI barrels in the mail (20practical and 260 remington ) and am having a delima on what to mount the 260 on. I have in my inventory a single shot right port right eject accutrigger a stainless long action accutrigger ( in case i needed extra mag space? And a standard short action with a rifle basix. The single shot is a complete model 12 204 Ruger but id be willing to tear down if it was worth it. Other 2 are action only. Mainly looking to punch paper and ring gongs out to 600. Any advise out there
I see two thing you are missing. Shilen and a Savage striker action. If you had them both you could use all the Remington parts and have a hand gun also. How is that for a thought.
No gun smith needed. Larry

Regardless of what you do to a SALVAGE action/rifle you will still have THIRD Rate weapon--their triggers are JUNK and no one makes a good trigger for them due to their CHEAP design trigger mechanism.
The bolt on them will NEVER be smooth enough to be competitive because of the SLOP --feels like running down 20miles of bad road.

For "Johnny do it yourselfer" they are fun to play with--ad a bbl or two and be done with it --NEVER figure on recouping your $$ back from them once you get past the $ 800.00 investment it is just money thrown away

Good Luck

Jim

What really gets my ire is why people have to bad mouth product that other people own. There is plenty of product that I could bad mouth (and don't) because I know it would hurt feelings.

Bill, I don't think it's about feelings. By the simple fact that in your wager you omitted Jewell triggers you are admitting that Savage triggers are not as good as a Jewell, which can not be purchased for a Savage due to their crappy trigger linkage system.

A Jewell can be installed on a Remington as can a Bixn-Andy and also the new Farley Kinetic trigger. There are aftermarket triggers for Savages, but they do not even start to compare to a Remingron aftermarket trigger. The reason is the action design.

Erik, the guy's post was a general bad mouth of Savage with emphasis on the trigger.

I won't argue if you say Jewells and Bixn-Andys are better than Savage triggers. But if you say Savage triggers are junk, then we may just have to arrange a test with my Savage trigger and an unbiased expert. BTW, you aren't unbiased. ;)

Hey Jim, why not tell us how you really feel about a Savage.

Did you ever consider applying to the NRA to evaluate rifles for their "American Rifleman" magazine? You have a unique style of communicating your thoughts.

Can we just quarantine all the Savage lovers to their own section of the forum so we dont have to listen to repeats of their threads every week? ;D

Who is forcing you to read their threads? The solution is easy, don't read their threads or is it that down deep you really do want to be a Savage lover. LOL

They are good actions to learn on and very good for the money. A new shooter can experiment with calibers not offered in factory rifles or at least rifles in their budget otherwise. Savage took the initiative to offer shooters new features other then make the same old actions with junk barrels like some others. Great factory trigger, floating bolt head, barrel nut and from my experience pretty darn good factory barrels. Of course there are many companies that specialize in building actions with extremely tight tolerances that a savage will never compare to. For some reason when you mention savage on this site people go nuts. I started a thread (how accurate is your savage really) if I'm not mistaken it had like 2000 views and pages of replies... It's fun to stir the pot once in a while.

Lol He recently posted how he got rid of all his savage rifles. In case you did not read that post. I will not comment on what he called "quality". ;)

Now bigdmt please do not jump all over me about that. All of us have different requirements for our firearms and how we employ them.

Unless you had a factory Remington extractor replaced with a Sako....this makes no sense.

I knew this thread was going to go in this direction as soon as it started. They all do. I think all the custom action owners simply don't like the fact that these less expensive actions can shoot as well, or almost as well, as their actions that they spent 3 times the amount on. The actual shooter makes a much bigger difference than the action. Let it go already savage bashers.

Not bashing...just stating facts.
For many on this forum "almost as well" won't cut it. If I'm blowing away >$1/ round you best believe I want my platform to allow my investment in components and my time to be able to give me reliable feedback from my target results. With so many variables, the last thing I want to do is doubt my gun.

Im just messin around. Even though there are many features I dislike about Savage, I have never denied that they make very accurate rifles. I think the OP will be pleased with performance on paper if he uses the Savage Target action.

There, are you all happy now!? ;D

I can understand that. If I was competing I would probably do the same thing.

I wish someone would do a test with identical setups on a machine rest and see what the difference would be. I'm betting extremely minimal if any.

Savage actions have proven they can win in competition as well. I bet if you took some of the top shooters and they had to shoot a Savage action, they would still be top shooters.
