Savage 7mm-08 Bore Issue

I put a new savage 7mm-08 barrel on an older Savage Axis action. It has a 9.5 twist, but will not stabilize Berger 168 VLDs. I broke it in correctly. While cleaning it, I feel some tool marks about 7 inches from muzzle. I even tried to lap that spot with JB to no avail. I don't have a borescope, so I am not sure but I wonder if I should send the barrel back to Savage. Any suggestions?

I doubt Savage would do anything but send it back to you . It is most likely a bad barrel but the warranty is void once you modify ,remove it from original receiver.

Did you try lighter bullets?

Did they shoot?

Ive never seen a savage barrel that didnt scare a borescope to death and on top of that ive never seen one that didnt wind up shooting good with the right combination
