Savage 112V J Series Varminter

Real nice! Deal keeps getting better!

2.2lbs is pretty good for seeing that wire adjusted so heavily. Hard to tell from the pic but maybe it already has the smaller wire?

Found the right rings and turned the rear base. Looks like it's going to work. Anyway to know year on manufacture by the SN?

The wire measures 0.0395.

What is the expert setting on the action screws for a rifle like this?

Found a nice one in town and curious to know more about them. Its a single shot 22-250 made in the late 70's early 80's. Wood stock checkered grip. Looks like a target crown 24" barrel, bore is bright rifling looks sharp. I've had pretty good luck with both the savage 223 rifles I put together for prairie dogs and I've been thinking a lot about putting a 22-250 on the bench. This seems like a low barrier of entry...but what are the odds its shot out?

If anyone has had one of these in the past; how did it shoot?

Looks a lot like the one in the add.

The wire I sent you measures slightly smaller than that(.036), but someone did replace it because the factory one measures .050”.

Before putting the one I sent on there I would try backing the adjustment screw(#4 in instructions) a turn or turn and a half and see what it does

Sounds good, Is 1.5# a safe objective?

Bump it and thump it, if it trips readjusted.
I have slept and killed off brain cells since I had mine apart.
A good hardware store should have some piano wire.
Turning that rear base around will lengthen gap, I turned mine back around to gain some travel.
Bedding looks a lot like mine. Wouldn’t surprise me if they came that way.
Don’t recall where I read it, something to the effect that Anshutz had some input in those. Scuttle butt was they wanted to compete with the 40X at the time. Makes some sense to me as a buddy had a couple of the Anshutz/Savage .22’s. Look at the palm swell and some other areas of the stock, looks like some Anshutz from the era.
I have had and still have numerous Savage rifles. These are simply the smoothest of any type have had my hands on.
I did make some socket head screws for mine when I swapped barrels on mine last fall. Buddy I didn’t torque them a bunch as no pillars.

I snoozed to long on a 22BR a few weeks ago, had a pile of stuff with it, brass dies etc. Probably enough brass to have worn the barrel out, $800 was a good price in my book, just didn’t need a Otho project. A Remington chamber rather than Lapua. I have a Cooper with that issue and don’t need/want another.

I think I originally said you should be able to get it to around 2lb safely and maybe slightly less. You’re almost there. Not sure it’ll go to 1.5 safely but should be able to get it under 2lb.

just check it real good to make sure it doesn’t trip the trigger. There has to be some tension on that wire but not near that much.

Fat fingered the go button and had to edit

That shoe may help if it’s to light. The extra width gives a false feeling to me of a lighter trigger. I left mine off of mine. Yet I put it back on my #1 in a Swift.
Damn thing has to come off though to get action out of the stock.

Yes, of course. I know better.

I seem to recall reading that these rifles had an Anschutz crown. Additional Anschutz design que's make sense.

I may be wrong but I believe when Savage and Anschutz were working together they didnt mix metal and stock work. Meaning Savage/Anschutz was Savage stock and Anschutz barreled action. Anschutz/Savage was Anschutz stock and Savage barreled action. On rimfires I love the Savage/Anschutz.

This is a nice rifle and I really like the stock. What a steal of a price if you got it in the range you mentioned and great scope for it as well. What does it weigh?

Great question, I had been curious about the weight too. I believe this stock has what's called a wundhammer swell; it feels/fits very nicely under the palm.

I meant there may have been some “influence” there. Not many factory rigs with a palm swell in that era. Even some what ambidextrous as a lefty buddy of mine likes it.
