I'm all ears if anyone knows where I can get some gloss turret caps for the Leupold.

How’s the trigger in this now? Doesn’t look factory now that I’m looking at it. Unless that’s just attached to the factory one?

Either way the trigger wire and adjustment instructions are on their way. Just dropped it in the mail.

The trigger is pretty good, It's wearing a clamp on shoe.

Ok that’s what I was thinking it was from the side view.

Btw, the gloss Leupold looks very fitting on there!

If that "rear scope mount" was turned around, would it still hang over the port??
The "J" actions were/are a PITA to get mounts to fit with "all the holes used" and not covering the port on either end.
I tried a bunch of different styles and finally shipped a couple of NEW mounts out, had them cut/re welded and made into a one piece with rear windage adjustment, doesn't hang over the port and used all the mounting holes and looks like factory made. Sometimes you do what's needed to get what you want.
Mine is a 110V (J) from the mid 80's that started like as a .223. Been so many different calibers now I can't remember what it is now. I'd have to look.
It's been my test bed for a bunch of different calibers.
I do know, I'll have it till I'am gone and then someone else can have the pleasure. ;)
Been a "few years" but there was a member on Savage Shooters (I think he may have posted earlier on this thread??) that had a BUNCH of the "J" single shot actions in .220 Swift. I thought most of them were gone by now?
Suppose to be barrel burners but owners say different.

I had planned to turn that rear base around and see if it clears the port. In the advertisment from my first post it looks like the rear base is turned around. I'm leaving for a deer hunt tomorrow afternoon so I probably won't get too tinker too much until I return.

I've had a bunch of the 'J' single shots through the years in 22-250 and 220 Swift. My current one is a 25-06. In my opinion, it's the best single shot action Savage ever produced. The exception would be the later target series actions....maybe. ;)

Cock the bolt and push the trigger shoe forward. If it's a Canjar, that activates the 'set' feature. A small tab will remain forward of the shoe. Touch that and the pin drops.

sleeper rifle(s). I have a shot out 220 swift, what would approx cost to rebarrel to diff. caliber excluding barrel?

Barrel nut wrench, small ball peen hammer, SMACK the wrench (steel to steel SMACK is the secret) and the nut is loose, spin on another barrel in the caliber of your choice, (maybe "bolt head" if needed), set head space and go shooting. :D MIGHT take a GORILLA to break the nut loose the "first time" but after that, easy sailing. :)

Great find and purchase by the OP. Thought I'd throw a picture of my Vartarg up while we have a great Series J thread going. This is a 10 twist PacNor I purchased from a member on this forum. It shoots OK...:)

Mine had a trigger shoe on it too. Took it off and it would slam fire. Must weigh enough more to add a bit of tension. Those triggers were pretty good imho.

Nope. it is a standard 3 screw. Which was Savages best trigger at the time.
You have a lot of adjustment available. And the wire isn’t sitting down in the slot on the adjustment screw which adds even more pull weight.
You have a trigger pull gauge? Curious what it is now and what it is once you adjust the sear engagement and add the lighter wire.
