Savage 112V J Series Varminter

Found a nice one in town and curious to know more about them. Its a single shot 22-250 made in the late 70's early 80's. Wood stock checkered grip. Looks like a target crown 24" barrel, bore is bright rifling looks sharp. I've had pretty good luck with both the savage 223 rifles I put together for prairie dogs and I've been thinking a lot about putting a 22-250 on the bench. This seems like a low barrier of entry...but what are the odds its shot out?

If anyone has had one of these in the past; how did it shoot?

Looks a lot like the one in the add.

When they were first announced, I ordered one in 220 Swift before they were available. Took a few months but I got it. Still have it. And a few other identical models too. Plus ones in 222 and 223. And 25/06.

Swede -.

I had one in .222 , and my best friend had one in .220 Swift.

These are the rifles that garnered Savage its great reputation for superb out-of-the-box accuracy !

Would I be a total clod if I threaded it for a suppressor?

How well does the trigger adjust?

Could it be a 14 twist barrel?

-Commonly known as the “intermediate”, “medium”, or “J” action.
-It is a 14 twist.
-Action screw spacing is 4.522” and it will be very hard to find an aftermarket stock for it.
-the triggers are stiff but they do adjust. You can probably get it to around 2lb or slightly less.
-Bed it and add some pillars and the stock is pretty nice for a factory stock. Just make sure the rear tang and barrel are free floating.

I have had a couple of them and wish I still had one. Don’t find them for sale often in their original form. Nice find! My one in 22-250 I think I put almost 3000rounds Thru it before pulling it apart and using the action for a build, and it was used when I bought it.

**If you’re interested I have a copy of the trigger adjustment instructions and also a new thinner wire for the side of the trigger that will lighten the trigger pull(you will see what I mean when you see it). If you want/need them just shoot me a pm with your address and I will send it out to you.

I shot 55’s out of mine with no problem at all.

Just depends on your plans for it. Just probably not the ideal action if you plan on swapping stocks is all. Longer than todays short actions and shorter than long actions, so can’t even really modify one.

Let us know how you make out.

These are great rifles, just be sure and inspect the bore, just as you should any used .22-250 or .220 Swift - particularly older ones since they have had time to easily be well worn or pitted.
