Anyone know when EGW started charging an internet tax??
It was $4.50 on my order----8% of the total.

This was posted by a member, and it summarizes the situation well. Bottom line, out-of-state vendors above certain threshholds are REQUIRED by law to collect tax for many states of buyer residence.

Quote: Congress passed a law allowing States to charge sales tax on online sales, which took effect last year. It had 2 stipulations concerning the amount of sales volume the vendor did and some other threshold[.] Prior to that, it [was normally not required] unless the vendor had a physical presence in the State. Most States with sales tax have since passed enabling legislation to collect online tax. So with at least the bigger vendors, you'll pay sales tax online in the amount you would have paid locally. If you've bought on Ebay, you have experienced this; since you remit the money to Ebay, they have to collect it.

The charge showed up when I did an online order. After calling to see why a Mt order was getting a tax charge, was told it was an online tax. I then said I would like to order by phone then. Was then told all orders get the charge.

Some states require taxes be charged to internet sales because the business is in a state that rapes people of their money. I mean they charge sales tax.. Well same thing..
I agree totally about 5 years ago I bought a used 2011 suburban it wasn't perfect and it had a lot of miles but it was well maintained, I Was able to get it for about $7000 less than blue book, When to the Secretary of State to get my plates and pay the sales tax, had the receipt of the sale, about 2 months later I get a bill from the Treasury department for the taxes on the $7000 that I saved off of blue book, I had to prove the value of the vehicle by going out and getting estimates for any repairs little Ding or dent, recites for tires and whatever money I put into it, finally after about a year I received a letter stating I didn't owe anything. Filthy politicians

2 main ways to get taxes other than income tax. Either sales or property. Well, I believe sales tax is much fairer than property tax. Those who never own, which includes most on generational welfare slide by leaving the rest of us to pay. More you spend more you pay, no exemptions , no exceptiona. Those who game the system by only doing 'side work for cash' do not contribute their fair share. You don't like it? Think about this, no ammo for our soldiers maybe because you slid by without paying. Think about it. I serves, I vote yes there is lots wrong but a still have no respect for those who think it's cool to slide by.

I believe when the company reaches a certain sales amount (1 million$), then they are required to collect sales tax. At least that is the way it is here in AR.

Something tells me, once a company purchases the software, they charge tax for everybody.

Who is in charge of making sure the collected tax is remitted?

I'm looking into an online business and there is something about a threshold you have to meet to collect. It varies from state to state. I had an FFL and collected tax in Texas a long time ago, I reported it but unless I got audited how would they know? There is something in the merchant account that's supposed to figure the correct tax but still unsure how it knows if I'm at the threshold to charge tax.

Online purchases are out pacing in store purchases and states are missing out on a huge revenue source will seeing declining revenue from existing sources. Online purchases have had a unfair advantage over “Brick and Mortar” store fronts. Some would argue that requiring online businesses to collect taxes levels the playing field a bit. It appears that others disagree.

It has been occuring for a while. As mentioned some states have passed laws allowing and requiring sale tax on online purchases. Another great idea by the socialist democrats.
Not really.

went all the way to the Supreme Court in 18’ in South Dakota vs wayfair, inc and the majority votes came mostly from republicans. States have the right to require tax on online sales to out of state buyers.

Love it when the truth comes out ! Thank you for that !

I live in Maryland. I pay sales tax on some sales but not others. For instance everything purchased from Amazon is taxed. Some other companies do not charge the tax.

I feel like every online store I purchase at I’m crossing my fingers that the hand won’t come out and ask for it’s share at checkout.

the list grows shorter every day, but man when you find a sweet deal and then no tax on the back end that’s the stuff.

after brownells moved sinclair to Iowa, I didnt get charged sales tax by them either for awhile. Now I do. Not sure what changed. I look at it that we got away with not paying when we should have been for awhile on online sales.

A companies online sales have to reach a certain amount before they are required to collect sales tax. EVERY brick and mortar store in a state that has sales taxes is required to collect sales tax regardless of how big or how small.

First off, the sales tax is by the state. It has nothing to do with our soldiers. Second, if they would quit STEALING, SQUANDERING AND MISAPPROPRIATING the tax dollars, there would be tons of money available.

Mt has no sales tax and I have never been charged a sales tax when ordering from where there is a sales tax. My situations as described above was about an 8% tax. Had I ordered something at half the price the tax would have been 16%+ the shipping.
How many of you are comfortable w/ that tax??????
