Annealing is your friend for doing forming like this!

I made some 6.5mm Rem Mag cases from 7mm Rem Mag cases. (The cartridge intrigued me when i found out about it & got a set of dies at an auction for $3)

With the shoulder set back as far as it is, was a PITA doing baby steps.

I measured & drew a line with soapstone to where the new shoulder shoud end up on the 7mm cases for the 6.5mm cases.
Broke out the propane torch & water.
Made it much easier!!
Cut the extra neck length off, trimmed & annealed again.

Now if i had something to shoot them in...

I prefer a cold hard draw especially as the shoulders get steeper.
Too soft and buckling will occur. I will sometimes insert a drag
mandrel to help prevent this on soft brass. I had to do this on the
Hornady brass, and the Norma brass I did not. Each brass lot and
brand has it's quirks...... Did a test draw on a piece of .243 range
brass, no anneal, and using Hornady Unique lube. Nothing special.

A little Update After 17 months. I'm on my second barrel and
have settled into a 30" Brux 4 groove, 8.5 twist and shouldered
on a Savage PTA. The current flavor is a 183 gr SMK sitting on
top of 49.2 grs of IMR Enduron 4451 and BR2 primer. This load
gave me a 5/8th" group at 500 yards, followed up one just under
an inch. I took this combo to the Ridgway VBR 1000 yard steel
match and produced a 22 of 40 in all day pouring rain. I did make
AAA class first time out.....Testing will continue as supply's can be
scrounged. With the 183 Sierra load hitting a comfortable 2804 fps,
I've decided to give the 190 A-tips a throw at the berm. I was given
some and found a box online. Next Ridgway match is in less then a
week, so I should get some loads worked up with the 190's by mid
June. I have an 8 lb. jug of Vhitavouri 555 waiting for these. BC of the
183 SMK is 707, where as the 190 A-tip has a BC of 838.

@Fuj As long as you keep bringing me the work I’ll do it!
And you out shot me last match at Ridgway, I need to step up my game. Hoping to do better this coming Sunday.
You have any of that 6.5 PRC brass lying around !! I'll get you into
wildcatting sooner or later. Neck that brass up to 7mm, and give
yourself a .240 throat. It will have Ridgway written all over it.

That’s a pretty respectable speed for the 183’s

I'll give some credit to that Brux barrel that's currently spun up.
When I started to develop this project. I used a 30" Bartlein with
an 8.7 twist. It was topping out at 2780 fps. I pulled the barrel
and using it as my fire forming barrel. The only difference with
the Brux is the 8.5 twist. Early on, it proved faster. At 2804, I hit
my node with easy bolt lift. I'm not chasing this further, other then
to see what the A-tips will produce.

I like bartlein a lot but for 7mm’s brux seems to just stand out.
The 190 a tip is an excellent bullet I just don’t use them because at higher speeds I’ve had the blow up
No such issues with the Berger 190
My 7 saum launches them at 2880with a fairly mild load.

At what speed were you at for the A-tip to come apart ?? My speeds
will probably be under 2800. Not sure what this Vhitavouri 555 will
give me. But if I'm close to 2800, and the targets are good, I'll have
that extra option on the shelf.

2880’s

They didn’t disappear as often as the 180 ELD though
