rumors of scope failures at F-Class Worlds

Hal,
I'm sorry, I wouldn't buy a product because of warranty. Performance is what counts.

Butch, I agree if something won't preform it's no good.
By the same token if you buy the best and you can't get it service when it breaks it's not much good either.

Hal

I got a chance to mess with the AMG another shooter has at the range and i was very impressed. When he told me that the whole scope ( including the glass ) was made in the USA i was a bit more impressed. Imagine that....Real nice glass....From Here.....

I was in Cabela's in Hamburg yesterday, poking around and decided to
One thing is for sure. If you go to your local Cabelas you'll see the shelves of the Bargain Cave lined with Vortex's. Returns from customers are the reason. What a reputation to live on!
I was in Cabela's in Hamburg yesterday, and did see a few scopes in the Bargain Cave. Not one was a Vortex scope. There was, however, a Vortex binocular there for a good price:)

It appears that a number of the Vortex GE's did have issues. One had the reticle fall apart in the match and a number had tracking issues. A Match 8 x 80 quit tracking during a match and was retired. All scopes are possible to fail strictly due to being a mechanical device. The GE are is Gen 1 and were among the first in production and from a strictly legitimate POV there wasn't enough time to get enough rounds through them to see what would happen from wear and use before the World's. I have had a number of March have issues so even the best can fail.

Without meaning to be rude or obnoxious but most shooters can't tell if the scope is having issues unless the thing falls apart and I understand that at least one manufacturer won't even take the things apart to check when you send them back for warranty unless something rattles. They just clean them up and send them back saying nothing is found.

Hal, I haven't experienced that. One brand with a great warranty is there for you, but why do I have to send a few of them back?

Well the Savage Team Shooter never made the match in Oregon today ( Saturday 26th ).
There where a few F-Open with Golden Eagle Scopes. So I asked around , no one heard anything about it in the circle...
I did get one high five from one Golden Eagle owner ( I have two of them now , better than my Night Forces in heavy Mirage ) .
A couple of the Group just stood there shaking there heads.

That my report !
Don

I heard Everyone had trouble with their scope except some Davies guy..

So he was the one going around turning everyone's turrets lol!!I own four vortex scopes from the pst,gen1&2,and the GE I am pretty rough on the gen 11 and it doesn't budge. When I started looking for a f/class scope I almost went with a Nightforce until I heard about the GE yes I am a fan boy.

Ok, let's settle the glass thing for a bit. Glass is glass. No matter where it's made, though some countries seem to produce exceptional clarity. BUT you can match that if you are willing to pay for it. For the longest time German glass was the best. IOR from Romania who made all military scopes for the Sov block at one time, imported glass from Hensoldt. In 1995 I was stationed in Romania and was offered all the IOR Valdata scopes I could carry for about $250.00 each. Vortex has been around for a while creating scopes and branding them for others. They finally starting branding them for themselves. BUT they have been around for awhile and just not noticed. YES, they are created in a foreign country. BUT if you are willing to pay a premium, then you will receive a quality product. NOT everything made in China is junk. They do not use plastics. They don't use inferior interiors. They continually produce better and better equipment. The Golden Eagle scope competes with some of the best out there, as evidenced with the growing number of them seen at shoots. People have their likes and dislikes. I don't care what you have or if you like it/love it or whatever. But to slam another product based on rumors seems a bit cheap. My rant light just turned off, so let the flame wars begin.

Just a fyi on the IOR Valdada Glass - - It is made by from the Schott Glasswerke of Germany. - They are the glassmaker & are also the provider for Hensoldt. (Carl Zeiss is the parent company of both Schott & Hensoldt).

- I have two IOR Valdada Scopes in 4-28x & 12-52x (both 40mm main-tube scopes) And the Glass & construction of both are top-notch. - When I say top-notch, I feel they are right up with March ,NightForce, Sightron (SVSS) & probably the Vortex Scopes (to name a few).

I feel that you get what you pay for in most cases when it comes to optics. - We all have our preferences. - And Lastly, I fully agree "to slam another product based on rumors seems a bit cheap" indeed !!

That's a pretty specious argument. Did you buy that super-size brush at Home Depot? I can probably only think of about a million examples of the same argument to make a statement about any business I like. Any business with a huge product line, to cover all levels of affordability, is going to good and bad stories out there.

I can only defend what I use, and in the Vortex line, that's the Golden Eagle and the AMG HD. Neither have given me any problem, with thousands of rounds on the Golden Eagles by now. If you are going to bash on a company here, you better have some actual facts and not just hearsay with a bucketful of logical fallacies and innuendo to make your case with.
Jay, go to your local Cabelas and prove me wrong. And it's not only there scope but their scope mounts as well. You can do better.

Done. Just walked out of Lacey a few hours before you posted this. While I was checking out decoys, I also checked out the bargain cave, as I always do.

As I said - innuendo and logical fallacies are not substitute for facts. If you intend to post further on this thread, you'll need to start providing actual, provable information or be blocked from posting. We do not tolerate bashing companies and products on this board with rumors and hearsay. Is that better enough for you?

Edit: LCazador won't be responding to this post, because I'm tired of re-explaining board policy on company bashing. I'm tempted to take it down altogether, but if there were *actual, verifiable* failures, I am interested in hearing details.

If I heard an actual First hand failure I would be skeptical with big wing and switching.. I would want it tested on a scope checker.. I can't see this thread generating anything useful other than a bunch of opinion.. They are like something everyone has..lol
