Ruger Precision Rimfire

Picked mine up a few weeks ago, great rimfire gun. The only complaint that I have is that the 10 round rotary magazine is difficult to load. My fingers aren't up to the task installing rounds in the mag. Perhaps Ruger can come up with something better.
You must be in CA or one of the other commie states. They normally come with a 15 rd non-rotary mag.

I have loaded so many 10/22 mags (same mag) I can do it in my sleep, fast, now. A little practice and you'll get the hang of it.

Got one and love it, but a precision target rifle it s not and was not meant to be. First thing a new owner needs to do is THOROUGHLY clean the barrel. Expect to use a LOT of patches and a brush with solvent. You will get a bunch of brown "stuff" out of the barrel but it will eventually clean up just fine. Secondly do not be surprised when the last round from the BX-15 or BX-25 magazines jams. The BX magazines are too short lengthwise to properly fit the magazine well and will rock for and aft. Using a 10 round (10/22) magazine not only works well but putting it next to the BX magazines confirms the length issue.

Mine seems to have a distinct fondness of RWS ammo and I've been using Fed Ultra Match with good results from a bipod using a Leupold 6.5x20 EFR scope.

:)

I haven't had any issues with my 15 round mag. Mine feeds just fine. CCI standard velocity ammo shoots extremely well through it too.

I'm considering one of these Ruger Precision Rimfires for PRS type shooting. Question everyone still as fond of them? Also considering maybe a Savage. What do you all think?

Just FYI alot of people have run into the same problem with the BX mags... The easiest fix is to simply wrap some electrical tape around the mag to tighten it up... There's video of it on you tube... Sounds crappy but it should help... I don't know why Ruger made them to that spec... Also happens in the 10/22s... It is the main reason I still use the old ten rounders... In some rifles they work fine but some they give problems...

I've got a stupid question: when measuring group size, is it measured center-to-center? Outside edge-to-outside-edge? Inside-edge-to-inside-edge? Inquiring minds want to know! I've been using On Target Precision Calculator software and I believe it measures center-to-center of the hole for it's calculations.

I've got a Ruger Precision Rimfire and a ton of pictures and calculated accuracy data, but want to make sure that I'm measuring it correctly before I jump in head first here.

Here's a picture from the On Target software. Each 5-shot group is at 50 yards using CCI SV ammo.

Outside to outside the leaded edge then subtract one bullet diameter.

I've been collecting data from my Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle and searching for specific info for where I need to set my expectation regarding the accuracy for this rifle. All data here is for 5-shot groups at 50 yards with negligible wind, using bipod on benchrest, bag under rear and 18x scope. I've torqued the scope rings and two bedding screws using the Wheeler FAT wrench to the specified values.

My average group size for 68 groups (different ammo) is 0.84" (1.6 MOA) according to On Target Precision Calculator software.

From this mixed bag of different ammo, my 3 most-accurate AVERAGE groups come from Eley Target, RWS Rifle Target and CCI Std Vel.

Average group size for Eley Target is 0.67" (1.28 MOA)
Average group size for RWS Rifle Target is 0.73" (1.39 MOA)
Average group size for CCI Std Vel is 0.76" (1.45 MOA)

Other ammo that I've tried: Lapua Polar Biathlon, Eley Force, Norma TAC-22, CCI Green Tag, Eley Match, CCI Blazer, Eley Tenex, Eley Club, and several hundred rounds of different bulk pack high-velocity stuff (those results were pretty poor compared to the match/target grade ammo so I didn't bother to analyze/measure/record those results).

How do my numbers compare to others using this rifle? Has ANYONE been successful getting this rifle to consistently shoot sub-MOA groups at 50 yards? Has anyone replaced their OEM barrel with a target/match grade one and if so which one and what were your results?
