If you buy two Ruger Americans at the same time and both have to go back to be repaired before they have less than twenty rounds through them both, just maybe something is wrong

I don't buy anything new and expect to have to send it back before it works, ... that's just B.S. The rifle calibers were 5.56 and 7.62x39, did ruger fix them, yes, the 5.56 went back twice. The 7.62x39 went back once. That's enough for me.

When you try to keep buying American, and you have to pay double for a product that isn't built right to start with, ... you just threw away another lifelong customer.

I Have One, Ruger 10-22 rifle ( I used, the Action, Magazines, Bolt and Wood Stock,.. Only )
Put, a bunch of, Volquartzen Parts ( Stoned, Fitted and Polished ) in it and a New, Green Mtn Barrel on, Glass bedded, the Stock with, a Little Crow Gunwork's, "Recoil Lug", YUP,.. Shoot's,.. GREAT, Now !
The Original Rifle, all Parts, plus, New Barrel & Scope, cost Me,.. $850 total ( Did all Labor, myself ).
Rifle rested over, a Large Rock, I Blasted, a Sage Rat at, 87 Yards,.. "Priceless" !

I did basically the same thing, but replaced the stock and used some Kidd parts as well, and you know what - I still have a Ruger 10/22.

I can honestly say I don't know why Ruger never tried to trick out the 10-22. I would opine that it is quite a job just producing them in the numbers that can support sales. We can't know what the overhead would be to engineer the parts, R&D them and produce in quantities that would support sales. At times they've struggled to support the output of the models they produce currently. Customers are fickle at times. Ask Remington about that. Remington had many years to change the M700 but didn't. Many people would balk at spending more than $150 or so on a 10-22 and some would spend much more but that puts Ruger in the position of having to appease their expectations. You spend $12-1500 on a 10-22 and you expect a level of performance they might not be able to accommodate. You spend that much money building your own and you own it. Ruger has made decent firearms that have sold well but I don't recall ever seeing one in a benchrest match. Some shoot some don't so well but that's pretty much the case with any manufacturer.

Do you own a Beretta or Benelli anything and have you ever requested a part or any repair, I rest my case. Their Customer Support is near zero. Their failures on the 92 in Iraq and Afghanastan are legend in the wrong direction. Fractures mostly. The One Shot Hip Weight.

Mine has "Morphed" into, Something MORE than, a Ruger 10-22.
I've, Stoned, Polished and Lapped, every inch of, the Bolt and Action ( was, Former Gunsmith and worked on, many of them, over the Years ) Fitted, the Barrel, set Headspace, "Lapped" the Bore and Chamber and,..
It "Runs" Flawlessly, after Several Hours of, Work !
I've never Had, a Jam and it shoot's Wolf Match and SK Std Plus, into "Tiny" group's at, 50 Yds ( Sub, 1/2" ).
It's equivalent to, a Kidd Rifle for about,.. $400- $500 Less ( $850.00 includes, a $235.00 Scope ).
It was, a Labor of, Love ! yup, LOTS of, Hours of, "Work" ( Gun Smithing, WAS, my Hobby at, One time )

But how does it shoot? Mine shooters better, but not nearly enough better, given the amount of money and effort spent.

With the Green Mountain Barrel ( Bentz chamber ), it puts 5 shots into, the .3's and .4's at, 50 yds.
My trigger IS, a safe,.. "Hunting Trigger",. set at, 2.25 Pounds ( I'm NOT, a Match Target shooter )
It 's Good to 85 or so, Yards, on Sage Rat's,. IF, rested,.. w/ Winchester HP's.
For "What" I Do ( small Game ), I don't Need, an Expensive, Kidd Rifle.
I Have Two, .22-250's,.. If I need, "More",.. Range and Precision

I just saw this on the Ruger website today. There seems to be a pattern of European companies buying US arms and ammunition makers. I am not in favor of the world's largest firearms conglomerate picking off an American manufacturer.

There is NO “perfect rifle maker” anymore.
I own a collection of non-military aka “modern” US and foreign made rifles in 6.5x55.
The ONLY manufacturer/brand (in sub-$2k category) which did NOT significantly degrade in quality since the 90’s is CZ.
Granted, fewer and fewer rifles are chambered by manufacturers in 6.5x55, so must current offerings are omitted but:
Tikka. M65= TANK, T3 =Great, T3x = blah (don’t drop your bolt EVER, handle will be off).
Remington 700. 1994 Classic M700 6.5x55 = great; anything later = rattle toy that cant hit $hit.
Ruger. M77 MK II (early) = solid (aside from loud safety ), special runs in swede past 15yrs =mediocre at best.
Sako, does not fall into sub-$2k category, but quality /fit/finish/ACCURACY did not change - still awesome.
Browning. X-Bolt was good but did not go beyond “dealer batch”, x-Bolt 2 is not even made in 6.5x55.
Savage. Never made 6.5x55, used 111 donors (to rebarrel into swedes) - these seem better than current production R700 receivers, but not “super duper”. Savage customer service is TERRIFIC, cracked plastic triggerguard call resulted in 2day FedEx delivery of replacement!
SigSauer will NEVER get any of my money from firearms purchases. After 10-15 years there is 0! Yes, ZERO support for models they sold. Sig556, Sig522 rifles - you can’t get anything for replacement (so springs, extractors and etc. are UNobtanium). Older pistols (especially 22lr) are the same story.

Bergara rifles - terrific start…. Have you tried to get replacement in the past year for a sub-par (confirmed OUTSIDE of their sub-MOA guarantee) rifle?!? Good freaking luck - they will offer $50-$100 certificate towards their crap but will NOT stand behind their product any more.

Conclusion: there is no AFFORDABLE and reliable manufacturer/company which offer wide spectrum products and have AWESOME customer support in US or foreign, for that matter, in my opinion. Add pressure from Liberal (I should say anti-gun) States, Presidents, Lawsuits, public sentiment- how easy is it for US based staple firearms companies to survive and strive?

There is a reason as to why R700 or Winchester 70 rifles from 70’s and 80’s fetching much higher premiums on used market compared to current production. Quality today is simply not the same and gun buyers respond accordingly. Eventually, once mammoth brands become irrelevant and unwanted.

Lots and lots of reports (with pictures as evidence) of the shit beretta pumped out from their TN factory.

Fortunately for me all the berettas I own are Italian or pre-TN factory plus I have enough old stock parts on hand to keep them running forever.

Not about to even consider and new beretta purchases...

Back when there was the old Remington they built a model called the 783. The first ones were priced low and shot good enough. I convinced a friend to buy one, he loves it. They were barrel nut rifles and were cheap enough to change a barrel if you needed to. They were not a beautiful rifle but a good value. American made. I wish I had bought a few, when they had a good sale just before fathers day.

Years ago, I read the hype in the NRA rag about the Remington R-51 9mm pistol. After the first production mess, the recall and the 2nd run of “fixed it” guns, I bought one. It functions well enough and it sits in my safe as a collector, like an old Edsel. Someday it’ll be worth millions!
I don’t like foreign ownership but when American ownership keeps screwing the pooch, I’d rather see foreign ownership rather than losing them altogether.
If things got that bad in the world, the Guberment would just seize the facilities and the American workers would keep on trucking.

I keep saying I hate Ruger rifles, yet I keep buying them. Their customer service is top notch. I have dealt with them on a few issues at no cost to me. Even when the problem was my fault. They have sent free parts as well as repired a rifle I screwed up. My bud recently bought an American in 17 HMR from a pawn shop. It was messed up and had issues. He sent it in and just heard back. Ruger is going to replace it as it is unfixable. He paid way less than new.

My wish is to keep Ruger an independent American company. I like Baretta and Ruger. I liked Remington and Winchester. All companies make duds usually when they are in a production run trying to meet demand. I have empathy for all firearms makers because of the ebbs and flows of customer demands. Ruger makes a lot of different stuff and it can't be easy to run one product then switch to another different product because of demand.
When Remington first went into production of the M700 they drove Winchester into a frantic mess because they stole customers and Winchester had to figure out how to produce the M70 more cost effective. All guns were made then with dedicated machinery. It's pretty disingenuous to compare modern CNC production with older dedicated machinery produced stuff. Some of that old stuff shot fine some didn't. Most all modern stuff shoots good but the finish suffers because it was a lot cheaper to produce fine polished and blued rifles back when labor was cheap and the dollar was stronger.
These days Savage did to Remington what Remington did to Winchester back in the 60's. They engineered a rifle that shoots pretty good that's more cost effective. Remington eventually went down the drain due to bad management and Holding company demands. I hope Ruger can avoid that. The Ruger American line is Ruger's attempt to keep up with Savage production and it really does well if you get a good one. Sometimes you don't.
