Ruger 6PPC chamber dimensions

Anyone have one of these in 6PPC-USA - What is the neck diameter and diameter at the shoulder?

Ive had a few Sako 6PPC-USA and they had about a .274 neck and body diameters at the Saami maximum. They sized well with a Harrells #0.

Curious if the Rugers have similarly generous chambers or if they are closer to match PPC specs.

I’m trying to get a guy set up to shoot his Ruger 6PPC but I don’t want him to end up with a sizing die that oversizes the brass with every firing.

I’m shipping him brass and I have sized some sample pieces that have been sized with different dies. Based on which ones chamber easily, I’m hopeful to get him a good die fit.

I figure if someone here has a Ruger we could skip all of that.

If it helps..... i measured 3 of my fired Norma brass the necks measured .269, .269, and .269. All 3 of the shoulders measured .432. As a point of reference, I used to skim turn the necks just to make them all consistent.

Having exposure to quite a few of these Ruger 6PPC's, I've noticed that Ruger must have had a couple different reamers for their 6ppc's. Some have a short FB and some about .015 longer. And one I reloaded for had to have the die turned in about an eighth of a turn to size it correctly.

When I bought the first one new in '95 (ish) the customer service was very helpful and forthcoming with information. Now........ not so much. I think everyone that really new anything about them has retired. JME WD

Interesting, comparing my as-fired brass from the Sako chamber, the Sako seems to exceed the CIP spec. The shoulder diameter (CIP "P1") measures about .4345, which is above the CIP dimension of .432/.433. But it's not easy measuring to a theoretical shoulder diameter that is rounded off.

We will see soon enough which brass chambers neatly in his rifle.

As for freebore, the Sakos were long enough to prevent jamming the lands in all but the most extreme bullet seating situations. I suspect the same for the Ruger.

@WyleWD What type of accuracy did you get with this rifle TKS.

After the action screws are properly torqued, the magazine box is squared and not canted, a Rifle basix trigger is installed, and you learn that you can't man handle it on the rest and bags........ exceptional. The rifle in my safe now has won the old Midwest Regional VHA shoot 3 times and a lot of less formal shoots. On the best day I had with it we shot 10 dum dum suckers in a row at 200yds. The barrels they used on these were fantastic. JME. WD
