ruger #1-V need some suggestions

I have a ruger #1-V chambered in 223 rem. I am going to have a new barrel put on it.
I love the gun, so does my wife and kids. just fun to shoot and pretty accurate 1.5"to 2" 10 shot groups@ 200yrds all day long from a factory barrel.
I want something a little differnt so i was thinking of having the new barrel chambered for 223 rem. Ackely improved. or i could go for 22-250 ackely improved. i'm thinking of these cartridges becase a have plenty of componets and would just need to buy some new dies. i will be shooting 200-300 yrds mostly, also i was going to have heart or pac-nor do the work on the gun.
well that is my plan what would you do? thank you for any imput

GO WITH THE 223 ACKLEY LESS POWDER THAN 22-250 AND THE 223 ACK. WILL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT TO DO BEYOUND 300YDS 3 TIMES THE BRASS LIFE THAN THE 22-250,BUT THE 22-250 HAS ITS PURPOSE ALSO.

If you're going to rebarrel, think smaller rather than bigger? Consider the .221 Fireball OR the 20 VT. Less recoil, less barrel wear, longer brass life and both still deadly accurate.

In that case, smaller does indeed = Better. I too am a No.1 and No.3 fan, and would also opine that a 20VarTarg would be my very first choice. Wicked accurate, very economical to shoot/miserly on powder, easy to load for, about zero recoil and just plain fun to shoot.

If you build it and hate it, I'll buy it from you for what you've got in it. (They'd have to tear it out of your hands once you shot it! )

there is just something cool about the 223 A.I., thankyou for your thoughts. i love the 6mm. BR and i plan to have one built by kelbly's for my intro to F-Class open. now Ive decided on the 223 rem. A.I. any thought on who i should have do the work?

20 Practical .Weaver chamber print. 11 twist. 24inches long.

Loads with a Redding 223 type s die. with extra 20 cal guts.

Excellent brass available.

Leave it a .223, just get a faster twist barrel to shoot the heavier, high bc bullets. The Ruger #1 suffers from some inherent issues when trying to get it to shoot, really, really good. You aren't going to fix those by just putting a custom barrel on it...

Preacher is not into the ruger #1 right now so I am getting a lot of we dont work on them but call this guy; type of response's.. I'd like to hear this is what I did to my ruger #1 and the end results accompanied with a name and contact info...
I'm aware of the tricks used to get a #1 to shoot good...like I said the rifle will be for fun, I dont expect .3" groups but that would be cool. My frame of mind is " when I can afford a rifle that shoots .3" groups I will call kelbly's and have it made. I guess I'll call heart barrels and see if they will do it.

Bullberry down in Southern Utah works on #1's. They will also install a tuner into the forearm. On this site listed as a Gun Of The Week (week 2) is my #1. I think Moyers still sells triggers for them.

I had a #3 223 rechambered for a 220 swift..Shooting 70 speer with 4350 ...First 3 shots at 200 3/4 inch. Hunted with it for years DRT on most deer..Some ran 20-30 yds..Still got it..It has survived retirement, two moves and downsize...Im taking it to the Old Folks Home if I live that long...LT

Please don't be offended by this reply, but if you love that rifle so much leave it as is, put it in the safe and build a rifle with a Remington 700 action. Then you can keep the rifle you love and then take the bolt action out and shoot in the .2s. It's a win/win!!!!

Bobcat, not sure if this fellow is still in business, but he specializes in Ruger No.1 and No. 3's. He did a complete custom build for me on a No. 3 in 17AH.....supurb rifle in all regards, shoots in the .3's on a regular basis (Pac-Nor).

Don't have contact info, as he did not have a website when he did my work, but it's Broad Creek Rifle Works in DE. These rifles are his bread & butter, and he's good at it too, even has his own CNC-made replacement trigger assy.

But the previous poster may have the best answer yet........
