223rem. or 22ppc

I have a hart barrel blank 26", 1-8 twist, HV. I found some one who will fit to my ruger #1
It is currently chambered in 223 rem. I'm not sure if it can be done but was either going to go with a 223 rem. Again or convert it to a 22 ppc. I will be shooting at 200 & 300 yards.
Can that rifle be converted to a 22ppc if so would you do it or stick with the 223 rem?
I would like to hear opinions.
Thanks bobcat

I am under the impression you intend to target shoot, thus the "200 and 300 yards", rather than describing between two distances. If you do intend to target shoot and really want a reasonable chance at winning local matches, I'd personally sell the Ruger #1 (or set aside for less demanding work) and use the dough to buy a rig more aptly suited. Don't get me wrong - I'm very familiar with your gun and am what some might describe as a "Ruger Nut". I've also put WAY

too much money into guns that did shoot "acceptably" in the end - but money I would never even get close to getting back out of the gun when selling it. For that reason, I'd also keep it a .223. The more folks that can feed it without reloading - the better the audience when I want to part with it.
All said though, I do love the 22PPC....

I can't lend any information as to rebarreling a #1, though I do suspect it to be much more of a chore than a routine bolt rebarrel.

Thanks for the reply,
I kind of thought the same thing. I'm in the process of building a 223 rem improved 40° shoulder. I ordered a hart and a shilen barrel. I thought what ever one comes in first I will use and the other I will save for another project.. .224 barrels are kind of hard to get in a hurry. I really wanted to build a 6mm. BR but the 223 improved was less expensive and I have all the reloading components from my other 2 rifles so shooting will be very economically viable. Perhaps when the new 223 improved is shot out I will convert it to a 22 ppc
