RL16 & the 6 Creedmoor

What did it top out at, and how bad did accuracy suffer????

Phil.
I just chronographed the load that shot well. It opened up to as high as about an inch then it started to tighten up in a high node right as I ran out of case capacity. I could probably work that node with a drop tube but with accuracy at 3080 and the high node strarting 3.5 grains higher I don't want to go there. This is the only powder I've tried with the 110's. RL17 and H4350 have both worked well with 115 RBT DTAC's so I'll give them a try too.

41grs RE16 filled your case too much, really? Hornady brass?
45 grains did, this is a 6x47L Imp. Body capacity is very close to the Creedmoor. RL16 is also a very bulky powder. Much more so than H4350 or RL17.

I recently ran out of H4350 so I tryed some new loads of RL-17. I was suprised it shot as good as my go to H4350 with 142SMKs. I just need to crono it now and get the velocity. I always do that last so I'm not influenced over velocity readings.

I shot a 3x1000 F match today with the 110 SMK's and RL16. The load held up well. We have our own class, F Tactical which I shot. I came in first by 27 points over 2nd and would have placed 3rd in F Open. So I have no complaints about RL16 or the 110 SMK's :)

What velocity are you running the 110's at?

3080. It will go a lot faster. That's the lower accuracy node. The high one is around max and I haven't explored it. I still need to try H4350 and RL17 with the 110's.

Swd, what is your barrel length and coal? Trying to match it to QL across a couple rifles and want to know if pressure readings are close. Found out that rl26 doesn't match up to well as far as pressure is concerned. Is 41.5 where you ended up?
Thanks

30" barrel. This is a 6x47L Imp. Case capacity is very close to the Creedmoor. 2.838" in .150"fb, 41.0 RL16 is my load.

Before the monsoon came (Tropical Storm Cindy) yesterday I got by the range with my 6 Creedmoor and some RL16 test loads. Ran a 300 yard ladder beginning at 39.8 and ending at 42.0 grains behind Berger 105 Hybrids (trimmed and pointed) and pushed by Federal Gold medal primers. The test results weren't easy to decipher because the test rounds all fell into a 1.1" vertical group. A nice node formed up that centered at 40.7 grains and another nice node showed up (although a bit higher POI) at 41.1 to 42 grains before I ran out of ammo. I verified the primer pockets were still tight and there was absolutely no flattening or over-expansion of case heads on Hornady brass so I think I can move up on that high node and see where it takes me. The Magnetospeed, unfortunately, was down due to battery failure so no velocity numbers.
BTW, my barrel is a Bartlein 5R with 7.5 twist at 26". installed on a Badger M2008 with AICS chassis.

load the middle of charge weights and call it a day?
I would but I want to push that higher node if at all possible due to shooting this thing out to 1,000 pretty regularly and sometimes even farther. I did a little more work today and, hopefully, will try it out next week.

i forgot i didnt see any FPS posted but if you hover around 2950 to 3000 you should be soild

Chrono battery died so no numbers there. I've been running 42 gr H4350 and getting about 3180 FPS. If I can get a great node and be at or just above 3,000 I will be happy.

Anyone else have RL16 data for the berger 105gr hybrid? Hornady max load data for 108gr eld shows 41.1gr for RL16 and 41.7gr for H4350. I loaded some RL16 at 40.8, 41.1, 41.5, and 41.8gr with 105gr berger hybrids at 2.80" COL (slightly into the lands) but my local range has been closed for lead removal, so I have to obtain RL16 info vicariously.

Did you read my post #32? I just went to 42 grains RL16 without any pressure signs.
I found an accuracy node at 40.7 RL16 but looked like it started to come into another with 42 grains so I'm going to work on that higher node next.
Also have a new battery in the chrono so I can get some velocity data.

shoot4fun, I read your prior post and very much appreciated the detailed info. Was looking to see if there was any additional corroborating info because, extrapolating from the Hornady info, we're near or exceeding their max load data. But I trust informed, empirical data here. Many thanks.
