Rimfire bore choke?

Do all rimfire barrels have a choked bore at the muzzle? I have read of them having a choked bore but don't know if that was only associated with benchrest level rimfire barrels. The reason for asking is that I am getting a Ruger American Rimfire barrel threaded to add a suppressor for my kids to shoot, and thought about getting it cut down a few inches at the same time to keep the length down when the suppressor is added. I wouldn't think these factory barrels would have a choked barrel but I have no idea, and i don't want to get it cut down if it would remove the choked section. Would cutting this down potentially cause any issues?

I don't know if it does or not. I cleaned the barrel when I first got it about a year ago and it has sat until just recently. Have only put about 100 rounds through it. I'll try running a patch down it and see if I can feel anything. I didn't know if .0005 or .001 would be noticable by feel.

This is going off of memory, so someone may chime in if I'm wrong. An old gunsmith I shot smallbore with years ago had a bull barrel Anschutz where the last approximately 2" of the barrel at the muzzle was roughly .050" larger than the rest of the barrel. His explanation was that when a barrel blank has material turned of the outside, it relieves the inside of the bore as well. Therefore, leaving the barrel slightly larger in outside diameter towards the muzzle had the effect of having the bore slightly tighter at the moment the bullet was about to exit. Obviously you would want the tightest point of the barrel at the muzzle because if it were the other way around the bullet is theoretically "bouncing" around in the bore after it passes through the tightest point.

I am quite sure the Ruger doesn’t have choked bore. I don’t feel anything with a cleaning patch. Pretty sure that is a premium/match barrel feature.

U should be able to pull a 22 cal. Slug from a round n slug ur bbl with it. Clean the bore first n use a flat faced pusher on ur cleaning rod. See where the bore tightened up.

You may mistake hardness to push for tightness. A rough place in the barrel can feel the same as a tight place.
Push one slug all the way through the barrel. Push another only in about 1 inch passed the lead then push it back out. Then very carefully measure the slugs. It takes some practice and a good mic but that is the best way to do it. Another way is with deltronic pins if you have them or access to a set.
