Rifling. Old subject but not really

How much longer do cut barrels last compared to buttoned barrels?

You didn't miss a thing by missing the 12 cylinder Jags. Ive driven my friends a few times back in the day and it was fast and smooth, but broken constantly. I liked it much better when it became a Jagrolet. You didn't have to carry a phone book with a paper clip on the tow truck section. The Chevy engine was a 350 out of a vette, and it was less HP than the 12, so not quite as fast, but it didn't need the ignition replaced every 10,000 miles.

350 must have been running with 2 dead cylinders.

Butch,

Jaguar was putting twin cam engines in cars before Henry gave up on the flathead motors. My first jaguar was a 1967 XK-E coupe. It had the gorgeous inline six. I missed out on the V-12's, Ford did a decent job of swiping the XK-8 four cam, four valve per cylinder. I expect that experience with the technology was one of the major reasons Ford bought them.

To the resident experts; one of you says they push, another one says they pull, and yet another says they just run compressed air thru after rifling. For the last one, air must have blockage to build pressure.

As far as the theory that using air pressure would be dangerous, never fire a firearm again. Including air rifles. They all rely on rapidly expanding air pressure to push the projectile down the barrel.

Dear gxd, man. Just read up on how barrels are rifled. I can't believe you're still ragging on about using air pressure to push a button through.

I was referred to him by Dave Brennan. I rode the old bagger down and watched him run a few barrels. He then milled a 700 barrel that showed the "skip" that a hard spot will produce at the sport air pressure had a spike.

No offense, but instead of driving halfway across the country, why don't you just tell me and the assembled multitude here why Shilen has more than one grade of barrel...? Dan Lilja told me that if any of his barrels did not air-gauge he set them aside and bored and reamed and re-rifled them to the next largest caliber.
Might be a good time to point out that remmy 700 barrels are hammer forged....

An old friend, Dr. Bruce, just installed a LS engine in his Jag. It needs to go to another shop to take care of the wiring for the factory Chev electronics. Hopefully it bypasses all the Lucas mess.

I was coming back from the auto parts store in the Jagrolet, 10th ave in Lake Worth. Light rain, gassed it in from of Wayne Akers Ford. I was east bound, then west bound, then east bound. My friend said he liked the Jagrolet, I liked the vette the motor came out of way better. The LS electronics will end most all of your friends problems.
