Rifle Maintenance Stand

I’ve had both types of Tipton, one that was all plastic, but now I use the one that has a metal tubular frame, which is much better. I like the look of those PMA but haven’t tried one.

A reminder that if you’re going to clean your barrel in a stand it needs to be higher in the back so the solvents run out the muzzle and not back into your trigger.
And, a good reason to store your rifles muzzle side down if you have wood stocks especially!

I like the MTM case with removable tray and rubber coated stands for each end of the lower box. Very stable.

I recall the product that you are searching for. I too regret not buying it. I have the cabela's plastic chinese knock off and it should be called the "knock-off" because it does nothing quite well. Doesn't adjust tight enough, or loose enough, wants to dump the rifle out. The movable support underneath the rifle is set at spaces that are guaranteed to not fit antything, and it doesn't have enough weight to hold itself still without screwing it to a table top...in recessed holes too damn hard to get a screw in or out.

I liked the big windlass like wooden screw on that oak model. Sure looked nice and I bet it was a fine, but too expensive, product.

Someone was selling some nice wooden ones here not too long ago. I believe his friend was building them and he was marketing them on this forum.

A gentleman in Kentucky builds some rifle cradles/cleaning stations out of various types of wood. I bought this oak version when it was up for sale. All the weapon contact areas are covered with leather. It has worked for what I intended it to do.

He might take custom orders if somebody had something in mind....

This is almost exactly like the one I've been using in the gun room now for almost 40 years. Mine is built with oak, made in ID by an outfit not advertising any more. Good quality, simple and does all expected of it.

This guy makes them out of different wood, sometimes sorta a little exotic, and I really like mine.

I have an old VersaVise and some soft jaws that Brownells no longer sells. I clamp the barrel and it holds the rifle securely for any kind of maintenance. These jaws were promoted as being a space age plastic material and was available in two densities, soft and hard. I'll have to say, they last forever. LOL.

The Versa Vise is still available, both from Wilburt as the original VersaVise, as well as a number of outlets selling a product called the Parrot Vise, which is basically the same thing but made in Asia.

I've tried several kinds of cleaning cradles and find they just take up too much room on an already crowded workbench, although at a match or whatever they can be handy.

Would you mind showing a picture of the vise with the soft jaws in it . Thanks.
