+1 A lesson I learned many years ago the hard way.A reminder that if you’re going to clean your barrel in a stand it needs to be higher in the back so the solvents run out the muzzle and not back into your trigger.
And, a good reason to store your rifles muzzle side down if you have wood stocks especially!A reminder that if you’re going to clean your barrel in a stand it needs to be higher in the back so the solvents run out the muzzle and not back into your trigger.
Another good reason for upside down storage is to not destroy fancy buttpads. And, a good reason to store your rifles muzzle side down if you have wood stocks especially!
This is almost exactly like the one I've been using in the gun room now for almost 40 years. Mine is built with oak, made in ID by an outfit not advertising any more. Good quality, simple and does all expected of it.A gentleman in Kentucky builds some rifle cradles/cleaning stations out of various types of wood. I bought this oak version when it was up for sale. All the weapon contact areas are covered with leather. It has worked for what I intended it to do.
He might take custom orders if somebody had something in mind....

This guy makes them out of different wood, sometimes sorta a little exotic, and I really like mine. This is almost exactly like the one I've been using in the gun room now for almost 40 years. Would you mind showing a picture of the vise with the soft jaws in it . Thanks.I have an old VersaVise and some soft jaws that Brownells no longer sells. I clamp the barrel and it holds the rifle securely for any kind of maintenance. These jaws were promoted as being a space age plastic material and was available in two densities, soft and hard. I'll have to say, they last forever. LOL.
The Versa Vise is still available, both from Wilburt as the original VersaVise, as well as a number of outlets selling a product called the Parrot Vise, which is basically the same thing but made in Asia.
I've tried several kinds of cleaning cradles and find they just take up too much room on an already crowded workbench, although at a match or whatever they can be handy.
Hah! Was just about to post that while reading through the thread.A reminder that if you’re going to clean your barrel in a stand it needs to be higher in the back so the solvents run out the muzzle and not back into your trigger.
Thanks. I wonder what the red material is?View attachment 1650858
This is the Parrot vise with Brownell's space age soft jaws.
I don't know. They sold them in red and green. The green was softer than the red.Thanks. I wonder what the red material is?
