OK, I don’t care if I get flamed, I’m going in on this. The OP’s rifle is an H&R/NEF Break Action Single Shot. They have a “cult” following that I got sucked into. Some of them shoot reasonably well out of the box, but more often they need a lot of tweaking. I learned all I know from the Handy Rifle guru on graybeard outdoors. He probably has 50,000 posts by now. The OP has His front rest set about where it needs for this rifle. They shoot best rested back a bit. Some shoot ok with a bipod, but most don’t. The but stock is a Thumbhole Laminate. I have one. I recommend using it, don’t even think about shooting this rifle free recoil. The posters who suggested controlling (pinning) the rifle are right on. The butt can benefit from a rear bag, but it slopes down at a sharp angle, and the grip protrudes abruptly, and can hang up on the bag at recoil, if not positioned just right. I got into these rifles because of the nostalgia of having a poke stock shotgun as a kid. Some have gotten them to shoot small groups after much tweaking, but mostly they are ”Minute of Deer” rifles. Not putting the Handi Rifle down, because they can be great fun, if you have the patience. Since they are no longer being made, their value has skyrocketed. I recently saw a rare 45/70 barrel alone selling for $500. Mine currently wears a 444 Marlin barrel, and it flat puts the smack down on whitetails. Hope the OP gets His Handi Rifle to shoot it’s best, and brings Him great enjoyment.
