Rifle driving/ steering tips with front rest

I have a small sand sock I use right now. If you zoom in you can see it sticking out from under the stock. I'm also trying not to cant , I even installed a cheap little can't bubble on my scope , it's on the left side so you can see it. I'm trying tbut it's a little rough so far lol
I have a Harris Bi Pod that I can donate to you. PM and address and it will be on the way.

I've found that light guns with round fore ends often times like to be held down in the front bag. Literally your non trigger hand on top of the barrel. This works well with light weight ARs with round hand guards, too. A heavy sand sock can work, too.

OK, I don’t care if I get flamed, I’m going in on this. The OP’s rifle is an H&R/NEF Break Action Single Shot. They have a “cult” following that I got sucked into. Some of them shoot reasonably well out of the box, but more often they need a lot of tweaking. I learned all I know from the Handy Rifle guru on graybeard outdoors. He probably has 50,000 posts by now. The OP has His front rest set about where it needs for this rifle. They shoot best rested back a bit. Some shoot ok with a bipod, but most don’t. The but stock is a Thumbhole Laminate. I have one. I recommend using it, don’t even think about shooting this rifle free recoil. The posters who suggested controlling (pinning) the rifle are right on. The butt can benefit from a rear bag, but it slopes down at a sharp angle, and the grip protrudes abruptly, and can hang up on the bag at recoil, if not positioned just right. I got into these rifles because of the nostalgia of having a poke stock shotgun as a kid. Some have gotten them to shoot small groups after much tweaking, but mostly they are ”Minute of Deer” rifles. Not putting the Handi Rifle down, because they can be great fun, if you have the patience. Since they are no longer being made, their value has skyrocketed. I recently saw a rare 45/70 barrel alone selling for $500. Mine currently wears a 444 Marlin barrel, and it flat puts the smack down on whitetails. Hope the OP gets His Handi Rifle to shoot it’s best, and brings Him great enjoyment.

I have a 45/70 handi rifle with t/c renegade ramrod and tubes affixed under the barrel. Stood right next to wardens checking my license and they never looked at it twice

Anyone got some tips on how to properly steer , drive a rifle with a front rest and rear bag ? You know honestly I thought this would make things a cake walk and be easier then my other methods but I'm leaving it's another skill set I need to figure out to get the most out of it lol.

For the most part I think I have everything set up right but not 100% sure.
barrel is way to far forward if you have a screw hole in the fore stock rig up a guide

With AR10/15-style rifles, with free floating handguards, and typical rifles with free floating barrels rest the center of the handguard on the bag.
With rifles with handguards screwed onto a barrel lug, e.g., Rem 700, center the lug screw onto the center of the bag.
Benchrest shooters rests the fore-stock (handguard) on the bag pushed foreward until front of the forestock touches the stop on the front shooting rest.
Single-shot and Schuetzen shooters rest the barrel on the bag approximately 6" from the end. They have a way to test harmonics using talcum powder on octagon barrels and may work on some round barrels.
Stay away from the swivel studs.

It's all about barrel harmonics, rifle profile, shooting-style, and consistency. Plus, what works for you. By shooting-style I mean if it's a hunting rife you may want to rest you non-shooting hand on the bag while holding the forestock/handguard.

O thank you for the offer but I actually already have a few bipods I use.their harris knock offs but they have the swiveling, lock, segmented legs and all that just like a haris and they seem to work on most of my rifles pretty good.
Hope I don't come off rude just didn't take your bipod when I have some already. Doesn't seem right to do something like that.

You beat me to it lol. Yeah she's finicky as all get out but man I absolutely love this gun for some reason! It just fits me like a glove ,which is a bit difficult for me. And yeah I had to tweak her a bit. First thing was the trigger, replaced it with a rebounding trigger and that dropped it down to 1.5lbs from 6lbs. But recently it's gotten back up to 2.10 for some reason. Then I learned about how these things HATE bipods. Then the o ring trick to the forend and the whole barrels not being stressed relived thing finally figured out one shot every five minutes minimum and shoot it off I bag I was able to get groups like this

I mean if I don't do anything special it's a 1.5-2" gun all day long and I can slap a 4" gong standing @125yd easier then I can really understand lol. It's just something about making it shoot this little groups that just drive me nuts lol !
