Damaging front rest with swivel stud

Take the stud out. If you have a floating washer inside the stock, epoxy it in place. Done deal.

As for using a rest with a hunting rifle, even with your hand under it, you’re going way overboard. I have tested bipod vs rest vs sandbag extensively and your point of impact won’t change unless your bedding or free float is bad. I have, however, seen group size changed based on where the rifle was supported, but not much. Not much at all.
 
What I lament is the almost impossibility of finding someone who can make a European size ( ~ .75" ), one piece sling for shotguns or rifles having swivels of this size. Years ago, maybe 35, I found someone in Idaho who made me one...one piece. Going to tack and leather shops locally they tell me they can't get a single piece of leather that long??
