Richards Microfit stocks, are they any good??

I purchased and finished a Richards laminate stock last year. It did take a lot of hours (60+) to sand, did my own bedding and pillar work; very pleased on how it turned out and get a lot of complements at the range every time I go. Got about $250 in it, after hunting season is over will start on a second stock. I tend to be one of those "beat to fit/paint to match" type guys andit was not as difficult to do as I thought it would be. Took all the money I saved and spent it on reloading supplies!

I hate talking bad about suppliers but in this instance I'll let it be known. There are too many good stock makers out there producing quality stocks for not a whole lot more money and far less work needed to finish. Spend you hard earned money with someone that actually cares about what they do!

Would anyone like to give their input on what company fits the above category?

I would love to find a place i can get fancy exibition grade stocks that are at least duplicated far enough to get the bark off most spots. I cant believe nobody makes a finished stock out of the extremely good wood like they do laminates

There is no such thing as good wood anymore. It takes years to properly dry wood. Do you think any company does that? Run it through the kiln, it will be ready to cut in two days, it now the prevailing idea. Talk to an old time carpenter or wood worker, all the new growth wood is crooked and ugly as sin. It's just the day and age we live in. However, I do like the idea of finding a piece of wood and sending it in.

I get my wood from Hearne's Hardwoods in Oxford, PA. They have wood that's been drying out for years and have quality wood of all sorts from around the world. Shooters, too!
