Good evening, I’ve joined the ranks of the retired. Just took effect 1-1-26. I haven’t adjusted yet of course, but will likely do fine. 36 years in law enforcement, and gainful employment since 13 or 14. I don’t plan on working again unless things go really badly, which I doubt. I’ve got many hobby interests, and a long list of things to do, healthy activities and behaviors. I’ve been MIA from this forum for a while which frustrates me.

Many of you have discussed this big step in life in prior postings. I’m happy to have joined you now in this regard. I’m looking forward to shooting more, spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, hacking at photography, and learning more about the night sky, among other things. So I’m hoping all goes well.

Congrats on your retirement, I retired August 1st 2025 from Department of Corrections in KY. It’s nice doing what you want to when you want to. First few weeks were hard on me. Like I had no purpose, two benchrest rifles and all the accessories later I don’t have that problem anymore lol. Good luck with your retirement you earned it
 
Congratulations and welcome to the ranks.

I retired 2/29/24 and I'm just now getting used to it and settling in.

Upon retirement I bought a shot marker and started shooting 3-4 times a week to keep from going nuts. All settled now at 3 times a week.

Loving life!

Welcome to the wonderful world of retirement. Do those things that you could not or would not do while hauling around the ball & chain of work. It's a great part of life and it's well deserved by those of us who did start work as a young child to be able to survive and then follow the work patterns for many years. Congrats.
 
I semi retired in 2015 and fully retired in 2018. Congrats, life is a marathon, not a sprint....36 years in LE that is impressive thank you for your service. I'd give advice, but just enjoy your family, friends and hobbies. Keep a close eye on your health as we aren't as tough as we used to be....
 
Congratulations, I retired 11/2012. Told my wife to open the business she always wanted and she did. Did very well at it. Worked a whole lot more than I wanted to but now back to retirement life again. You will never be without something to do except now you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. I worked for my Sister and Brother in law part time while employed. Never will forget what he said “ It must be nice to be able to tell someone to cram it anytime you want to “. My reply was “ It Is “ and I don’t miss working anymore.

Congratulations on your retirement from a retired State Trooper. It is a well earned accomplishment and I wish you nothing but the very best for you and your family. Yes, there is an adjustment but I predict the day will come when you ask yourself why you didn't retire sooner. I've been out 17 1/2 years now and have enjoyed every moment. Long life and happiness Sir. You've earned it. Never forget those you've known who did not reach this momentous occasion.
 
Congrats on retiring. I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of it and seems it's well earned too.

Last week I got good news and bad news, boss said the PO came in so appears I'm working another year. Gotta make hay while the sun shines...
 
2-1-24 for me, the third time. This one stuck, and I’m marking things off the Bucket List on a regular basis. Have lots of Former LEO Partners gone long before me and far too young at that.
Start on that list as soon as you get to a sense of normalcy being your own keeper.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed!
