Resizing, HELP please

i have fired brass about 3 times and when i try to resize it the case will go all the way into the die but stop about a half inch, it doesnt do it with all my case but a good portion

i almost think its having problems pushing out the spent primer, could that be so?

-the cases are oiled, the die cleaned, and the cases cleaned as well, checked cases with calipers dont seem too oversized compared to others that resized fine
-308 winchester, rcbs press and full length dies

Make sure your decapping rod is not bent or the stem loose etc. You can change the orientation of the decapping rod to see if that helps the situation.

You can buy decapping dies pretty cheap. Does nothing but knock out the primer. Then clean the cases and run them through the sizing die.

What kind of rifle?

I used to set my die to just size the neck and part
of the body on my .308. My dies were RCBS as well. I also had the same problem. It would stop about halfway through and be very tough to resize cases. I recomend getting a collet die from lee and just size the neck. Then FL size when necessary.

Seems like the winchester brass wasn't as hard to resize as the remington brass was.

Put a little torque on it and see if it sizes the shoulder any at all. Sounds like you are reaching the point where the die starts resizing the shoulder area. With that said, unless your headspace is way long, dies usually come in contact with the shoulder at about,i'm guessing here) an 1/8 of an inch before bottoming out on the shell holder. Is your die screwed all the way in to make contact with the shell holder?

When using full length dies, it is normal to feel increased resistance in the last part of the stroke, as the tapered die body walls comes in contact with the taper of the case walls.

So far, nothing you have said indicates a problem with the dies,or any problem) - just make sure that the full body of the case has lube on it.

The RCBS lube is marginal at best. Your problems sounds like inadequate lubrication. Try some Imperial Sizing Die Wax,now Redding) or the Dillon spray lube.

I use RCBS #2 lube, water soluble) on everything up to 50BMG and it works just fine. Two years ago, I FL sized over 600 pounds of military brass with it - no problems.

yes the die and shell holder touch ive checked that several times

and haha, catshooter youve underestimated the increased resistance, this resistance is enough pressure to make me think the handle will break and it will move the whole bench, but ive never fully resized those cases for the obvious high potential of damage

and German S1 some of the cases from the same batch same firings will resize fine, but i will try a better lube

A couple of years ago, I put a 6XC bbl. on a FN Patrol rifle for a friend, and got him a set of DTAC 6XC dies to go with it. He had a problem very similar to yours the first time he tried to use the new sizer die, don't recall for sure what lube he was using), so I sold him a tin of Imperial Sizing Die Wax. I told him to clean the sizing die with Hoppe's #9 or Shooters Choice solvent, dry-patch it, and then lube a few cases with the Imperial. That did the trick - from that point on, he's been able to size with Hornady OneShot with no sticking or excess effort.

Use imperial sizing die wax. Also try sizing the case with the decapping rod removed. Also, make sure when you reassemble the decapping rod into the die that it is not too long and bottoming out on the insside of the case.

In my opinion the best way to go is get a case guage and full length size every time with zero headspace. Case life is 20+ in a 308. Ive tried everything and settled on Imperial die wax as the finest and fastest way to lube the cases. 55 years and hundreds of thousands of loaded rounds talking.
