Resize lube procedure

I roll my cases on a lightly lubed pad,and then run the case down on a nylon brush in a dry graphite lube bed,Forester). Is this adequate...sometimes the case seems excessively tight going, and coming through the bushing in my redding fl die....Is this a lube problem or other,Have never felt this before with my old RCBS die's.

I put all my cases neck up in a loading block and just spray them good making sure some gets inside the neck with Hornady One Shot spray lube. I don't like the pump bottle but the spray can is the best lube I have ever used and it is quick and you don't need to clean the case afterward.

I have been having problems since I bought the pump bottle. The aerosol can seemed to give much better lubrication. Have any of you had the same problem?

I bought a pump bottle of Hornady lube one day because they were out of the spray. The first time I used it I stuck a case in a die. This is the first time I have ever stuck a case in over 25 years of loading. I have never used the pump lube again. I have had others tell me to let it dry for about 15 minutes then start sizing. I could be done sizing a box of cases by that time when using the spray. With the spray it also helps to give the size die a shot of spray up in it about every 30 or 40 cases. It makes them size very easy.

I have tried waiting and it does not work. I stuck a case waiting and I have stuck a case spraying the cases constantly keeping them wet. And even then the sizing was hard.

I don't know if this is the correct way to Lube a die but I spray S&W dry lube in the die; it makes sizing easy and does not contaminate the powder with oil.

Good info,That's a new method to me, I'll give it a try. Thanks again!

Just a tip that will help on stuck cases. We have all been there and done that. Take a piece of sized brass for each chambering you load and keep them in a box labled properly. Each time you set up to load, lube the sized case and run it through the die. The lube on the sized case -- plus the fact that there is little body and shoulder tension on the already sized brass -- will "pre-lube" the die and you will have no problems.

P.S. In fact, run the lubed and sized case up in your die, then down. Rotate the case and do it again -- about three times total. This will distribute the lube evenly.

FWIW, I can get a "little" better runout using RCBS II lube than Imperial. Got that pointer from Charles Ellertson. Of course we are really nit picking here, but I tried it and Charles was correct.

Boogershooter,

Have losded several hundred thousand rounds in the last 55 years and setteled on Imperial die wax applied by my fingers when I pick up the case. No lost time of any kind. Also I stack all the cases ready to load neck up and give a slight spray of Hornady lube into the neck area. Works like a dream. Also I have a series of fl dies with .001 steps in neck dimension so I use .001 tighter than a loose bullet. Gives uniform seating pressure. I once spoke to the Russian factory that loads their 300 meter ammo and they claim 25 kilo as the ideal seating pressure. I had arbitrarily picked 60 pounds and that is what we used to load the 250,000 rounds of the '92 Palma ammo.

I have found that when my cases need annealing, they battle to form smoothly. They stick and shudder when sizing.
Have started using Imperial Die wax too...lovely stuff.

I put about 100 cases in a plastic jar, put a bead of RCBS lube along two cases; put jar in Thumbler tumbler and let tumble for ~20mins and get a nice uniform coat of lube.

Wow, its great getting this info from so many experienced reloaders.I just got some goodies in the mail and among other things, some imperial, just need some spare time to experiment. Thanks !Hey BobJensen..Do you lube the inside of the neck also?
