Replacement for Jewell Trigger

I have been having trouble with Jewell triggers on Rem. actions, is there a good replacement trigger around that you all use.
Thanks,
dubya.

Hi

I have just bought a Rifle Basix trigger in the ERV-3 model,4oz-1.25lbs)
.
It is to go onto a Remington XR100 rifle. I have read that they are good, but may need adjusting occassionally. I do not know how long occassionally is. It is for a varmint rifle, and it will be many times better than the standard.

I am also using a Rifle Basix trigger on a 1000yd gun, set at about 3-4ounces. It is fine... No issues...

My new rifle that is nearly complete will have a 2 ounce jewell... so then I can compare.

Generally, the rifle basix I have, works... and that is why I went for another for my varmint rifle.... butu I still have to try a jewell.

Dubya,

Hart makes a good competition trigger, but are pricey. More so than Jewell. If your having problems why don't you give Jewell a call. Perhaps they can help.

I am going to use the Rifle Basix ERV-3 on my gun. If you ever have questions regarding a Basix trigger, the best person to contact is Bob Brasfield, the owner of Rifle Basix. His phone number is 704-566-1939, and he has always given me great info regarding his triggers.

Well, I have contacted Jewell and have sent them two triggers to repair, seems the tear drop portion of sear is breaking, lower lever # 7 in Jewells illustration ) and now in my varmint rifle which is a pretty standard Rem. 700, one of the repaired triggers has failed in the same manner.

Hate to hear this, as I am planning on using a jewell in my next rifle. I have been using Shilen triggers in my Remington f-class rifles for several years with no complaints. They are set at 3-4 oz. and have never needed to be readjusted.

Im am just ordering a Rem 700. I was thinking what kind of trigger I should get. This will be a hunting rifle, with about 1-2lbs.

I want "fat" trigger. As I think a wide trigger is better for hunting. Any advise on this?

You will be able to get the standard Rem. trigger down to about 2 1/2 pounds. For hunting I personally like the wide triggger shoe, but on my target rifles I like the narrow shoe. Everyone has there own preference.
Good luck w/your new Rem.

I checked w/ R.W. Hart & Son,on there web site) and they do not list triggers, only actions w/triggers.

I also have a Rifle Basix ERV-3 on my Remington 700 6 x 284. Its set at about 6oz and I find it is really quite a nice piece of gear. Its consistent, breaks like a 'glass rod every time' which has got to be the most important feature, and nor does it fire when the bolt is slamed shut - even after 15 times in a row.

My bog standard M700 trigger, even after being lightened by my gunsmith was a dog. The pull weight varied on a random basis - yuck!

Michael.

I have several Jewell triggers and have never had a problem. Every 500 rounds or so I squirt copious amounts of lighter fluid through the assembly to clean and lubricate, per Jewell's instructions. They are the the best trigger made, in my opinion, and I have no doubt they will correct any problem you may have. I have several Rifle Basix triggers on my varmint rifles and they are excellent triggers; good price, superior quality. I have a friend who has several Shilen triggers on his hunting and varmint rigs that he is quite happy with.

There are few, if any, triggers on the market that will keep pull weight, and work as nicely as an Anschutz 5022. If you don't want to use the Briley Adaptor, you'll have to get a gunsmith to mount it, change the cocking piece to a verticle unit, and most likely you'll need a WTC trigger show, but they are excellent triggers.

My next choice would be a Grunig trigger,G&E). At $450, they're not cheap, but they are on par, cost wise) with the Anschutz with the Briley unit.

No multi-bar trigger will ever hold a candle to these units. Worlds apart.

I agree with Chris. Anschutz all the way.

Hoser,

Have you stocked the action yet? I looks like the trigger shoe may be a bit too far forward. Warner Tool and Die makes a shoe that moves the shoe back from .5 to 1" I think, adjustable. I have two of these shoes. Very nice,$40.

Are you going to use two front action screws?

Also, what action is that? A Hall? The shroud looks like Stiller, but the action doesn't ring a bell. Is this a home made unit?

Chris...

Its an XP-100 chambered in 6.5 BR for IHMSA,pistol)Silhouette. Its little sister is a twin, but chambered in 22 BR for half scale targets. Virgil Tripp chromed the whole thing.

I am just using the front screw. I can hold 1.5 x 1.5 groups at 200 meters creedmore/dead chicken so I guess its working out fine.

Yes the shoe is fwd quite a bit, but in a McMillian XP pistol stock you dont even notice it.

I tried the Warner shoe and while it worked great, its curved and really wide. Eventually I might hack on it and see what happens.
