Remove engraving from barrel

I recently received a Taurus Tracker 17 HMR revolver. Revolver is very accurate and I'm starting to do a few modifications to it, grips, trigger rebound spring, red dot sight, etc.

One thing I would really like to do is remove the engraving of TRACKER on the side of the barrel.

Anyone know a way to do this without damage or making it look like a botched job. Since the barrel is not round, putting it in a lathe is not an option.

Could be set up in a mill and cut out by a skilled machinist or go with newer laser cutting methods. Either could be done, but it would not be cheap to do it. It is to deep to just polish out.

I would put it in the mill and surface it. It would probably only take .003 to .005 to get rid of it.
In my case I could do it on my own time for nothing but to take and do it for someone else the shop would probably need at very least 75.00 for a hours work most may be 100.00 or more.
Just some insight I couldn't take it to do either way right now.
Would want to re blast that area also
Gun smith's don't make enough money for what they do.

One other idea. Get some model or craft paint in silver at Walmart and fill in the engraving. It won't completely obscure it, but it will be much less obvious.

I would pull the barrel, draw file that flat until the marking was gone, then polish to about 320 grit and bead blast. Should be able to get it to look fine. If you don't have a bead blaster I wouldn't attempt it.
