Revolver red dot mounting

Picked up a Taurus M44 8 3/8" 44mag and was thinking about putting a small red dot sight on it like in picture. Not a fan of the satin stainless finish but I got a decent deal on it. Really don't want to drill the top strap but I can if it's the best option. Thoughts?

I use that same mount and love it!! 50 yard groups are amazing now with the aid of a small RMR micro red dot and much easier on the eyes than irons ; )

It's pretty limited on weight of mounted sight. Above 3.5oz is not recommend.

Do you co-witness with the front or use red dot exclusive? Went to local gun store and looked at a Burris fast fire and a Riton they had in stock and it seemed it would be difficult to aim since there was no real markings to position the dot on the glass. Looked at a friend's Holosun as well that had a circle that appeared if it was tilted up, down, or too much left or right. No circle ment you was "mostly" centered. Iust not have a full understanding on how these are to be used after actually looking through them.

There's no chance of a co-witness with this setup. The optic is far too high off of the frame. You'll essentially relearn how to shoot the gun if you go this route. Your first instinct will be to pull it up as normal but that will leave you staring into the piccatinny mount and then you can readjust by lowering your hands to get the optic down into your line of sight. For me, I draw the weapon with the muzzle pointed slightly upward and then I slowly bring the muzzle down onto the target until the red dot (green in my case) appears in the top of the glass, then I just center it. After some time working with it and shooting the gun, It's second nature now. I would not be without it. Hands down, better than the original iron sights. I'm WAY more proficient with my revolver now than I ever was. Groups are outstanding. I can now hit clay pigeons at 100 yards. Before, I struggled to hold a 6" group at 50 yards because the front sight blade was as wide as the whole target paper. I'm running a UTG model only because I had it lying around. Nothing fancy or expensive. Does what I want it to do. I now have optics (red dots) on almost all of my handguns. I'll never go back.

Clearly I need some help lol. First 2 had me stoked but maybe I hurried the shots. 44spl 240gr SNS LSWC 4.8 trailboss at about 27yds. With my saftey glasses the sight seems to blurr and double but always excuses.

I recently acquired the same type set up for my revolver, I plan on taking a deer with it this year. It certainly improved my accuracy.
