I will always remove my brake because it gets full of copper plasma/vapor from the bullet jacket.

Carbon is hygroscopic and acidic when exposed to moisture,humidity.. It should be removed periodically. That said, the actual crown is self cleaning. Not only that, but if you use a brush, it'll get it. Crud gets blown away with every shot. I've never seen a crown with any buildup, but I've seen it close to .100 thou deep on the muzzle and it was pretty badly pitted underneath.

They simply unscrew. A punch or other rod that fits all the way through is best.I saw that too.................
Now to derail the OP`s thread........Sorry about this.......
I have a Harrells radial brake, what is the BEST method to remove one??????
Phil.

When they get bad enough I just bead blast lightly. If the blasting hurts them harrells has the replacement cheap. To me brakes are disposables. I always use titanium or stainless for my stuff.
Give it a break, or um break, or oh...nevermind! Have you been sniffing too much copper vapor Eddie? Is that coffee break cleaner or smoke break cleaner?

Well here goes another easy way to clean your brake, I take mine off every time an soak in a cup of CLR and watch it clean before your eye's.

I had "break" everywhere in my post and went back and changed them to "brake". Give me a brake (? sp)....I live 4 miles from Canada.....English is not my native tongue!!!
