Has anyone tried any of Northlands Remington Prefits using their Savage style barrel nut? I have read alot of good reports on their Savage barrels.

Did u use the savage style barrel nut they are selling. What type of results r u seeing? I was looking into the criterion rem prefit.KMart said:

Yes, I used the nut from Northlander on one of them. You have to because the threads are Remington instead of Savage. It is about $29, I think. On the other I used a nut from Pacnor. It is longer and gives a better, I think, asthetic look. Not clunky looking like the Savage. Downside is it is about $65.
I also used the larger recoil lug that he offers. It has a small socket head hex screw in it that you can take out, or if you use the screw you will have to have a smith(machinist) cut a slot in the face of the receiver on the bottom side. It is kind of like the notch savage uses to hold their recoil lug in place. I had a machinist do the first one and the second one I sat down with a dremel tool and a small bastard file and in about 45 minutes had the notch in place.
The McGowan barrel is a 9 twist in 223. I get .3-.4 in groups on a good day shooting 69 SMK. Please understand that I am NOT a competitive accomplished rifle shooter.
The Criterion is a 6XC 8 twist. It too shoots like the 223. I feel the Criterion is the better barrel, primarily in the finishing. The McGowan had to have the crown redone.
I don't think he gets any "Remage" barrels from McGowan any more.
Jim also sells a Wheeler Engeneering type action wrench for removal and replacement. This wrench works a hundred times better than putting the barrel in a barrel vise for removal and replacement of the barrelnut. The action wrench works on savage as well as Remington actions. I torque the barrel nut to 40 ft pounds and it worked for me. Why did I pick 40 ft pounds? I don't know. I have used that setting on 2 savages and 2 remingtons and they all seem to shoot just fine.
If Jim doesn't have what you need in stock, he will order it from Criterion. When I ordered the 6XC barrel, I asked him how long a wait I would have. He said 8 weeks. In 8 weeks th barrel was at my door. He will call you and let you know when the barrel shipped.

I bought a Criterion 6 BR barrel Remmy prefit.
I don't know why all Remington barrels aren't made like this????
The Criterion seems to be VERY well made. However, I am not a fan of their 6BR reamer. It's very tight at the base. I cvan't use my Stoney Point Gauge to find the lands because the case won't go all the way in...

Bradley, you may be having problems with the neck diameter more so than the web of the case. At least that was the problem I had. Turned .002" off the neck thickness and the case slid right in. Might not be the same in your case but it worked for me.
I know it's not Remington but I've great luck with the Criterion I put on my Savage.

It's real smooth on the cleanup too. For the money it's very good so far.

Well i spoke to Jim today and let me tell you he is a SUPER GUY. His customer service skills are second to none. Not only was he very informative but he was also very concerned about what the shooting world was saying about this line of prefit Remmy barrels. Im hoping a few guys that are shooting them chime in with some real world results. Jim had passed a name and phone number on to me of a shooter who has done 5+ guns with these. I will call him on the weekend and try to get some info to share.

A remington reciever,a barrel from him(very reasonable),and his remmage nut. Then you need the wrench he sells to tighten it and a reciever wrench or barrel vise. And a headspace go gage.
so no work needs to be done to the receiver???
