Whoa, fellas. I'm not picking on any body. My post was an examination of accepted norms , with a little self reflection on the side. Reading it again, I can see it could be interpreted otherwise. Let me try again. I used to be a guy that shot his guns once or twice a year, as were my friends. A factory gun that my father or grandfather gave me was good enough for me. If I hit the target most shots, I thought I was doing pretty good. A 3 inch group at a hundred was great. Meanwhile, I was running a business and raising a family and didn't have the time or interest in shooting any better. I had heard rumors of "really accurate custom guns" but I never went looking for one. I didn't know any gunsmiths and there wasn't any internet. When I retired and had a lot of free time on my hands and money in the bank, I started shooting more, asking questions and doing research. Here I am 5 years later, still learning but knowing a heck of a lot more than I did. I even own a couple customs. These days when I go to the range and see a guy shooting a factory gun and smiling about his three inch groups, I just smile with him and don't say anything. I see my old self in him. If he asks me any questions about doing better, well I can get pretty windy. My father was a teacher and I think a little rubbed off. These days, I'm shooting .3s to .4s on a good day and trying to do better. I 'd be really upset if I shot a 3 inch group. I am guilty of thinking I'm shooting better than 75% of the gun owning public, hence my question. Does that make me a snob? My accepted norm has changed.
Butch, I certainly wasn't trying to make a back handed comment towards you or anyone. Some times, what I think comes out wrong on paper. By the way, I have 3 700s that shoot good and one came with chisel marks like Dusty's picture.
