Remington Quality Control?

Has anyone else had problems with new remington products recently? Not in the business to start a flame thread, just wondering. Four years ago I bought an 11-87 barrel and the "tube' for the magazine was welded cockeyed. When I went to the gun-shop to replace it, two in stock new barrels did not have the gas ports drilled. I got over it, and am still a Remington fan. But, last week a co-worker brought a basically new 870 Express to me, because it would not "pump". A cast part in the reciever, pinned to the inside had simply broken off, after ten-12 rounds of trap shells. It gets worse. Another co-worker bought a new 700ADL 270 WSM last week. Fired 10 rounds, had trouble opening the bolt each time. All cases had brass flow into the ejector hole and flat primers from factory ammo. A borescope revealed that the brand new gun had no throat cut in it. After a week of back and forth with Remington, he finally got a promise of a new rifle and shells for his trouble. I think he is lucky to still have eyeballs. :'( Any reasonable, helpful ideas on this "trend"? Again, not at all interested in a B*^$H session, just looking for similar incidents and suggested ways to address the problems in a good way.

had a customer bring me 270 wsm that he could not get 3000fps without pressure . upon inspecting the bore i also found very little throat. after running a throating reamer in i found that we could now acheive velosity and the gun shot great . i had a 300wsm that had accuracy issue i found that the front portion of the barrel was coppering badly . half the bore was in prefect condition. while the copper side of the bore proved to be very rough and some what tighter . T.R.

Remington is making good on the gun. After a protracted effort to make it through "customer service" where he was told "we will never give you a new gun", contact was made way high on the food chain. A new gun, bullets, and various other "i am sorries" are on the way. That is the care that every company should make when they goof.

I went through this with a 700 vs .308. It had way to much headspace and insipient head seperation was evident on every case.We sent the gun in,called 2 weeks later and they said it was fine with there go,no go gage's.I asked if they looked at my letter and sample's of case's.I dont know,I will get back to you.He called the next day and said they would replace the barrel.I asked if they would change the caliber to 22-250 stainless fluted, and change trigger to the x-mark pro.He called me a day later and said it would cost 54.00.I said go ahead.Got the rifle a week later and it wasnt my rifle. They sent me an alll stainless vssf 22-250.Now you wont believe this,it shot terrible.I argued that 1.5 " 's is a lousy group. He said to send it back,it came back a week later lapped by the custom shop.It shoots like a lazer. The moral:just be courteous and patient! Good things come to those of us who are vigilant and patience is a virtue.

i have been lucky and had 2 700 that had problems. one was a simple fix with burris rings. looked like the action from front to rear was off .026 inch. i put the burris rings with the offset and that was a fix.
the second i had was a rem 700 7-08 that would simply not shoot for anything. tried everything, stock bedded, handloads, scope. went through the basics and still nothing help. contacted them and was told no warranty because i was not the original owner ( bought it used) after time and time again i through to i guess the management and sent it back to them. they put a new barrel on it and told me it would shoot less than 1moa at 100 yards. when i tried it out it performed as they said.

I made the mistake of returning a rifle to Remington once. They replaced it with a POS and kept my good after-market trigger and never returned it to me despite numerous calls. I'm sure they still build good rifles, though. Yeah . . .

LOL I'm not so sure about building good rifles but they build good donors if you fix their lack of quality.

All I can say is SAVAGE!!!!!!
Don't like the way it shoots? Unscrew the tube and put a custom on.
Nuff said, you figure the rest ;) ;D

I know they make lots of guns etc, but it troubles me that this is happening to a company that built guns I love. I was blown away when I called customer service about the 11-87 barrel(s). I was told "we make thousands of barrels and sometimes we make a mistake". Ok. I do too. I just try hard not to sell mine. And how exactly do you forget to put gas ports in a gas gun barrel? Or two? Makes me lament for the old days, when a 700 was usually good to go. And a 40X was a work of mass production art. I will keep buying Remmy...on the used market, till they get it together. And as far as Savage goes...you are right...they shoot great. Just hard for me to look at. No offense meant...it is just a preference. Will update on the new rifle when it comes.

Well the gun came, and had a scope on it, sighted in no less, prior to the opening day. however, the gun was a rifle that had been returned from another customer (according to the Rem people) because the customer did not like it. Ok, why the heck? Am I overthinking this, or is it not simple to simply make a call from THE office to the line, saying "pull a 700, 270WSM, check it over VERY well and bring it to me NOW, so I can fix an oversight and satisfy a customer" ??? Do companies go out of the way to fumble stuff? At this point my buddy has a gun, and he is shooting it. But I am sad to say he actually used the S word... muttered Savage under his breath. makes this Remington guy nearly choke. But facts are facts. Sad day in Remington country here. :'(

I had a customer with a new Savage have problems with their customer service, too. There's no place to hide! When we, as customers, demand low prices, this is what we should expect and get.

"When we, as customers, demand low prices, this is what we should expect and get."

Sadly enough, truer words never spoken! Words of wisdom here.

You can go to Walmart and buy a brand new M700 with scope for $397. I guess you get what you pay for. I would prefer to buy an old one, toss the barrel and stock and go from there. The new guns have a cheap looking finish and I have no idea about the metal quality anymore.

I have been a Remington fan ever since I started shooting back in the mid 60's. A few years ago at a gun show I picked up the new sps varmint off a table to have a look see and I had to do a double take to make sure it was remington. The stock flexed just from picking it up by the forearm. After seeing that I started wondering where else they were cutting cost and corners to make a buck. And I beleive making a buck is what it is all about with all of the firearms makers these days. The good old days of refusing to give up quality for price to protect their name is long gone in my opinion.

I also fear this will be the start of the end of it all. They will reach a point where they will be unsafe due to lack of quality and the goverment will start shuting them down. Had a buddy try to trade a firt year run 700 at a show 2 weeks ago and the dealer said he would love to have but was worried about the trigger issue that has been making the news. He gave him his card and told him to call after he got a letter from Remington saying the trigger was safe. It is starting and we don't see it yet.
