Remington lays off 600, refuses to pay severance or vacation.

I would not assume that the Employees Union, plus New York, are "innocent" in the demise of Remington. In the case of Winchester for example, the company said that they could not meet union demands and stay open....they would have to close down. The Union said "You cannot do that."...that is a quote. The rest is history.
Colt had the same problem

Many reasons they were in trouble, NY regulations, too much debt, but mostly it was bad management. They were late to the game with black guns and pistols. Others moved in to that space and the hunting gun market is now a small percentage of overall sales. They need to upgrade quality and get back to their core business of center fire rifles, albeit with a smaller market share.

Since we're kicking that Remington Can down the road, here's my two cents. Remington needs to get out of the gutter with their rifles, leave that low end market alone. Sell your Model 783 as your entry level and me, personally, think its plenty good metal for an entry level rifle. Make those 700's, but make them right. No short cuts and step up to the plate on QC. Kick it up a couple of notches to Tikka, CZ, Kimber, Cooper quality
and put some decent triggers and stocks on them. The 700 is a fine action. Next, leave them unions out in the waiting room. Unions don't give a rat's butt about the employees they just want the dues and the good life it gives Union Leaders. I'm not hearing how the X-Remington employees are getting any help from their union
pension. Lastly, move your operation to some place that cares about you and would welcome you with open arms, maybe even back to Alabama. I wouldn't even try to open a Lemonade Stand in New York.
There, I feel better now. Vote for the guy tha's going to protect our Second Amendment Rights.

Is it just rumor that I heard the the Native americans might be building remington guns due to the lawsuits against them..... Just something I heard but it might be a benefit of both parties ..

They tried to sell the whole company to the choctaw nation i think, so they could be immune to the lawsuits but that deal fell thru

They should have expected that.
It hasn't been run correctly for years.
The layoffs are a shame for sure, but there are two main takeaways;
- record gun sales over the last few election cycles, and somehow Remington goes bankrupt? Obviously the management is incompetent...
- and NY has been hostile to weapons for years. Maybe they should have closed shop and moved years ago

I'm not a huge Remington fan, but if this is how the new owners are treating their workers, I will boycott their business in the future.
Tough deal for a lot of people. But bankruptcy really changes the rules and unfortunately "labor", even wages owed are pretty far down the priority list. The government (taxes) gets the first cut, then the secured creditors... Severance pay and vacation I doubt even make the list.

I work management in manufacturing. A smart person goes into that job knowing that the company doesn’t give two craps about you. Anyone who is outraged that works for remington lives under a rock. I know for a fact that as soon as my company can automate my position or hire one manager to manage multiple departments they will. I’ve gotten a lot of “lateral promotions” since being with my company. No one cares about you, but you. That’s life. I’m bouncing as soon as I find another silly job that pays more. Work to live, not live to work. Sadly, that’s what America has come to now. Should have just stayed active duty.

Just imagine what it would be right now if it weren’t for Donald J Trump and how much worse it would even be four more years from now

I didn't think they could get out of paying vacation time
I worked for a company that went bankrupt on a Friday. Monday we had no pensions, overtime pay, vacation or health insurance. Over the years, good people departed and it changed hands a few times. Today it is a bare ground lot. It wasn't a union that ran it in to the ground. It was incompetent management, government regulations and our congress in Washington.

I've been keeping up with an ongoing thread on THR about this, one poster is a Mechanical Engineer in the Huntsville AL area so hears what's happening there from (now ex) Remington colleagues. Synopsis is Remington already laid of all 585 Huntsville employees except a skeleton crew to wind things down and park the equipment, so Remington's attempt to survive with a Southern US production facility fell flat on its face alongside Ilion NY already.

Some Roundhill executives are reported to be former Remington executives. I'll post a link to that thread for those interested here if that's not considered bad form here, linking to a thread on a different forum.
