Remington date codes?

A model 700 is stamped DXMP on the receiver. Anyone know how to decipher? One guess I heard was Dec 1965.

Remington date codes are on the left side of the barrel just forward of the recoil lug, not on the receiver.

Thanks John. I need to look more carefully at the barrel, because I cant tell anything from what I thought it said.

Scott, Can also call Remington at 1-800-243-9700 with the serial number. If my memory is accurate, I believe when you listen to their menu it is prompt #7 one selects for historical information on a firearm.

Stamping on some of the Remingtons I have seen/own the third letter could be the year and some the fourth, therefore

M='65
P='67

If indeed a Dec '65 then serial number is either high 5 digit or low to mid 6 digit. If a Dec '67 then SN should be around 300,XXX, above or below. I have a 234,XXX that is Sept of '66.

Least that has been my experience.

Thanks Dennis. I wish they would have just used a letter for the month and 2 numbers for the year.
