Yeah, a buddy and I spent over an hour this morning. We found that site and it doesn't tell us anything since the numbers are in different locations than what the site says. Also, doesn't mention serial numbers or "UPR". The sarcasm is appreciated, but less than helpful :)

See if this helps you.
http://www.remingtonsociety.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=410 This is a little different than the other link. Yours sure seems to have an awfully long serial number.
Butch

Here is a pic of the side. Hope this helps. That is cool to hear the stories of 50+ year old rifles.

U= the assembly code PR = either june of 1924 which is impossible and 1968. Cant figure out what the 30 is yet. Are you positive it is a 30-06?I need a pic of the other side and the stock if possible.

I stated a fact, sans sarcasm. Here's another fact: call Remington and ask them. The mfg. can often be a good source of info.

I tried. They were closed today :) Now you are seeing why I posted the question.

I think a call to Remington on a normal work day giving them both Serial Number and barrel date code would yield the best possible answer.

I know that there is a running Thread on Rem. Soc. about these and 725's and a Serial Number log of sorts.

No matter when manufacture was,,,I never saw a 721/722 that was a bad shooing rifle as long as the bbl was kept clean and cared for,,,,I hav seen a cupla of em that were ruined because of rust/neglect/etc...not the guns fault,,,,,the stocks were not the pretiest or best dims/drop/etc...but they were shooters,,,,Roger

Now Roger, not all of them have ugly stocks.

Remington dates model 721 serial number 6284676 as 1953. Historical info. can be obtained from Remington at 1-800-243-9700(select prompt #7). I believe the anti-bind slot for the bolt lug was an early 70's design change for the model 700.

You have an unusual barrel marking and serial #. The manufacturing date code is stamped on the LH top rear of barrel. It is 2 or 3 digit, month first then year. There is no U month code and no year PR that I can find. There is a PP (1945) and RR (1946). Month codes are all single digit and year codes are 1 or 2 digits. The serial # also appears very long.
My 721 30-06 is marked C ZZ 44. It was made in APR 1953 and I personally bought it in 1953. I do not know what the 44 means and suspect it corresponds to the 30 on yours, having nothing to do with the caliber. My serial is much shorter than yours, 309207.
The factory in Ilion, NY may be able to clarify it for you.
It is a most unusual barrel code and receiver #. Keep us posted with your findings.
Bill

After looking closely at your receiver#, I think it is not an original Remington marking. The numbers are too bold and the characteristics are different than those on my rifles. It looks like someone else has stamped this receiver. Let other members with original 721-722s look at their numbers and compare with those on your receiver.

Thanks a lot for each one of you taking time to help me out. I will take more pics of the other side, etc and post them. I will also call Rem when I get some time and see what they have to say. Again, thanks a lot guys for the info you found. Keep posting anything you can find.

Hi Butch,,,you are rite again!!!,,,that shure is a purdy piece of wood,,,and the Weaver scope and tip off mounts are typical of the period,,,very nice rifle,,,,,,,,,Hope ur well,Im gettin beter evry day,,,thank GOD,,Roger
