Remington 700 stock options

I have a 7mm rem mag remingtom 700. Date code says 1997. I really enjoy this rifle, and the Wooden stock is nice. But it's getting the hell beat out of it in the brush. Also I prefer a synthetic stock for less weather related torque on the action.

Would a standard Remington 700 synthetic stock fit the bill? Or are there betteroptions that I should consider? This rifle is a hunting rifle, not a range queen. Gun currently shoots under one MOAwith factory ammo, but hoping come January I can shrink that with my own load development.

Thanks

Yes Remingtons standard tupperware stock will fill your need. I have sold many of them back in the day for $40.00 delivered. The super soft recoil pad is worth more than that. LDS

That's great. Where would be the best place to find one? Keep my eyes open in the classifieds I guess?

I would run a want to buy ad on this board. I'm sure there are plenty of them gathering dust. Be sure to specify long or short action,ADL or BDL.

I have a 700 5R in .308 and it comes with an HS Precision stock with an aluminum bedding block. We did skim bed it and I think its a pretty damn good stock and bedding the action sure tightened up the gun.

They make them for Rem long action also....in various configurations

Cheers

You can also check Numrich as they usually have lots of stocks for the Rem 700 at good prices. Also, check eBay for the occasionally well priced second hand stock.

If your rifle is a BDL model and you like the stock style, I think a McMillan BDL stock is your best choice.

Google. Grayboe stocks....pillars and a truly solid stock....family member owned of the McMillan group. Deceleration pad and well built.

I would look for a B@C takeoff or HS equivalent with the aluminum bedding block. Reasonably priced and miles ahead of the tupperware version.

Bell and Carlson makes a damn fine fibreglass stock as well for a sporter, much cheaper than HS or McMillan....... Also usually in stock at stockys.

Great options for sure. I'm still thinking that a original remington synthetic stock will be my best money spent. This is not a tactical, not a precision rifle. As long as it'll keep 1MOA to 600 yardd, it's a success.

Those cheap-assed Remington tupperware stocks are just great for a hunting rifle in my book. they are slender and grippy, cheap, and gettable at almost any gun shop, and who cares if it gets beat up. and did I mention cheap. I'd be surprised if you don't fine one here on the forum tonight. jd
